just came back from Day 1 of Empower U programme at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.. Mother Tongue O levels today.. felt prepared... paper 1 wrote alot of crap... this time I think paper 1 will pull me down, instead of the other way round.. paper 2 was ok.. han zhi only know 1 word.. my friend who studied dunno how many books still only know 1 word.. so isn't it the same.. zou ju know 4..
YEA.. much much better than 1 for mid-year.. the compre also quite easy.. though some of my friends say its hard.. usually do quite well for compre.. now its a matter of how high I would score... slight chance I might get a B3?? but mostly likely maybe a B4 or C5..
went home and immediately collapsed into my bed.. finally can relax.. slept for awhile.. kept saying to myself its still early, can rest for awhile more.. then waddayaknowit, its 5.30, was suppose to be in school at 4.15! took a quick shower then flagged down a taxi to the indoor stadium.. didn't really know where the Empower U was held.. then remember something about the going through the reserved carpark.. didn't miss much of the programme.. when I got in, they were already clearing the chairs for the activities.. well this 3 day programme specially organized for our school.. didn't know there were so many people, esp sec 1s.. about 120+ in all.. played some games etc.. this is one of those times I really wish that I wasn't in a boys school..
well, need to be in school at 7.15 tomorrow.. so have to sleep early..
Oh yea, this blog's 1st anniversary coming up soon eh..

well, tomorrow starts off my jammed-packed holidays.. this whole week squeezed to the brim.. some events even clash.. extra lesson during the holidays mix with band practice add with ALW course I'm attending, you'll get a schedule denser than lead..

Tried Escargot yesterday at me cousins house.. had a barbecue at his roof top terrace.. 2nd time going to his new house since last Christmas.. nothing much has changed, think he changed the windows though, now was grilles.. Had chicken wings, otah, satay, that sort.. also had escargot, a kind of edible snail from France.. It was seasoned with butter and herbs and cooked over the fire, so smelt quite nice... you have to pick the snail out of its shell with a toothpick, oh yea, its already dead by the way.. even it was still alive still would have tried it.. was rather chewy, you could swallow it whole if you wanted to.. could see why its considered a delicacy..
if I manage to earn lotsa money, first thing I would do is go around the world in my private jet to sample food from all over the word... would really love to go to Italy if I got the chance.. pizza, pasta... yum

went to play badminton with me family today... booked a court at the Sengkang Community Centre there, from 6pm tp 8pm.. mostly would book at the Sports Halls, this time wanted to try something different.. only 2 courts there, was a stage at the end of the hall, multipurpose I guess.. parents went to Compass Point to buy something first, so me brother and I started playing first.. no wind at all in badminton courts, so sweating alot..
went to cp after that.. didn't bring an extra shirt so bought one from giordano, my shirt was saturated with sweat to say the least.. huge sense of relief after changing to a dry shirt.. ate dinner there, then went to Hougang Mall to buy me brother's badminton raquet.. my father left the raquet in the car the day before... due to the heat inside the car all day long, the raquet snapped.. not just the strings, but the frame of the raquet.. think the heat caused the frame to expand, while the strings didn't expand much.. the resulting tension was so great that the top part of the frame gave way, looked like as if you rammed it into a pole of somesort.. since it was already broken, decided to break it up somemore.. wasn't really hard to break a raquet if you use some force.. the shaft was indeed made of graphite.. some black dust came out..

Results for Mid-year Exams are back.. got back the various test papers over these 3 days... wasn't anything unexpected.. didn't fail anything.. regretted not studying for History.. then structured only got 4 out of 25.. didn't know a thing.. but Social Studies did quite well so overall passed combined humanities.. bio got B3 instead of A2 I expected.. not that off.. then physic and chem A1.. was asked to fill this reflection sheet and on it had "value-addedness" meaning what you had expected for that subject to the actual grade.. mostly 0.. not more than 1 off.. English suprised me.. used to get A2, 74 those kind, finally got A1.. mostly because of paper 2.. got 40/50, first time got so high.. hope can keep this up for the "O"s... did much better for A Maths then E Maths.. while others were the reverse.. haha.. think I was too careless for E Maths.. Paper 1 had lotsa fractions.. most of the time would get A1 for Maths.. but this time got C5.. greatly disappointed.. so in the end,
L1R5=12.. not that bad, but could do better..
still can't get over the fact Jeremy John won me in Science.. don't think he knows anything else besides studying.. ask him whats an iPod, he doesn't know... cause of the
ridiculously high numbers he got for most of his subject, so most of my classmates vowed not to let JJ name on the top student board.. we rather have somebody else, rather than JJ represent our class.. there's great competition amongst our class, guess thats what pushes us to excel... we are afterall, 4E1.

Raining heavily as I type now... 35 more mins before Zhi Hong chiongs down to his nearest cinema to watch an NC16 movie.. haha.. also Ming Wei's Birthday today.. Happy Birthday Ming Wei..
went to the Zoo and Night Safari today.. long time I've been to the Zoo.. last was pri 5 or 6... changed the entrance.. no longer had the macaws at the entrance.. a fountain sraying a jet of water 10m into the air now greets visitors... bought tickets to both the Zoo and Night Safari.. cheaper if you buy them together.. had lunch at KFC there... was already 3pm when we entered.. walked as usual.. few new additions to the Zoo since I last went there.. the new white tiger habitat, the new elephants of asia exhibit.. new restaurants and koi pond..
went to the kangaroos enclosure.. wasn't as much fun as it was in Australia.. although there were fewer kangaroos and wallbies, got to get near them, feed them and even pet them... it was hard getting near them though, hopped away at first sight.. managed to get close to one.. but that was 4 years ago, in 2001.. watched the sealion show at 5.. was a peacock wandering around the seating area before the show
12 midnight.. 15th May 2005 already.. Happy Birthday Zhi Hong!now where were we.. nothing new about the sealion show... saw it before lotsa times.. saw more animals after the show ended at about 5.30.. went to the fragile forest enclosure.. spotted a baby ringtailed lemur clinging onto its mother's back..
saw a quotation that I felt was very inspiring.. "Only after the last tree has been cut down. Only after the last river has been poisoned. Only after the last fish has been caught. Only then will you find money cannot be eaten." really sums up how fragile our planet is and our human action against nature..
went over to the Night Safari at about 6.30.. restaurents there were open, so went there to eat.. spotted another peacock at the carpark.. dunno whether's the same peacock in the amphitheatre... its sheen looks alittle different though..
first time going to the Night Safari, didn't know what to expect.. ate at Bongo Burgers first.. the burgers were nice.. doesn't taste so processed as Mcdonalds, more meat too.. more expensive too.. $9 for a set, but the drink quite big.. almost like a super-big gulp.. the drink so super expensive also.. $4 for a 500ml bottle of coke?? can buy 2 1.5litre bottles for $4.. bringing my own drinks the next time I come..
went to take a picture with an albino burmese python.. was $5 and the money went to the conservation fund, so why not.. better then a $4 coke right? he was very smooth and dry, not slimy like people think it of.. was also very muscular, and kinda heavy.. maybe 5 or more kgs? fun..
walked along the trails first.. the queues for the tram were super long.. if it were any longer, it could reach the zoo... couldn't use flash, so had to use me tripod.. more exposure, less shaky hands.. although the animals moved before the 4 seconds were up.. walked the entire route before returning to the entrance there.. the tram route covers some exhibits that are not accessible by foot.. so took the tram ride anyway.. interesting 45 min ride.. liked the part where they went through cm deep water.. came back at 9pm.. thought we were just in time for the 9pm creatures of the night show.. but it was packed to the brim when we got there.. so no choice but to wait for the 10pm show.. went to have a bite first... like $6 for 6 pieces of satay? and for those maths whizzes out there, its 3.33333333 times more expensive then your average satay..
went back in at 9.30.. got some people there already, but not as packed as 9.. didn't finish the whole show.. half-way along the show, it started to drizzle alittle a few people left.. we stayed for awhile, just to watch.. then rained more heavily, lucky we reached the shelter before it turned into a full downpour... felt like a rock show.. lotsa light effects, lotsa loud noise and lotsa bangs...
got to be the heaviest downpour this year... the sky was holding up all day.. look like it was going to rain when we arrived at the zoo.. wonder how it would be like in the walking trails at night when it starts to rain.. hmm.. wouldn't want to be there...
visibility was quite bad... look like a fog just descended upon Singapore... thats how intense the rain was.. reached back home still raining, but less heavy... this it stopped already... yup.. tiring day today...

Friday the 13th ain't so unlucky.. for this year that is...
October 13th, 2000, Friday... was Pri 5 at that time.. came home from school.. about 6+.. then went to Po Kiat's house, me neighbour.. was sitting on one of those toy cars thingy outside his house... then lean forward, slipped and my teeth hit the ledge of the steps... happened so suddenly... knocked one of baby teeth out, and chipped one of my permanent front teeth... was wailing in pain... grandmother took me too the dentist.. could walk, just had a bloody mouth.. used some ice and towels to relief the pain..
had stitches on my lower lip, temporary fillings to my right incisor.. the left big teeth to you.. braces to the 4 teeth, the 2 incisors and the 2 next to them.. somehow, I had bit through my lower lip with my upper teeth, chipped them, and displaced them a couple of milimetres to the front.. wonder if I didn't land on my teeth but on my forehead?? then Oct 14's newspaper headlines would be: "11 year old boy dies at neighbour's steps" scary...
returned to the dentist 2 weeks later to have the stitches removed.. it was black thread, so looked like I had some thick hairs growing out below my lip... removing it was more pain than stitching in on... was given anesthesic during the "surgery"...
the braces were only removed 4 months later.. quite scary.. use pliers to get pluck them off.. then was given new porcelain veneers.. quite intesting to watch.. was using a ultra-violet light thingy and the orange plastic to shield their eyes.. like something from CSI.. of course I couldn't see things that are going on in my own mouth.. was done quite well... couldn't really tell which teeth was real and which was fake... haven't really told anyone about this until today, the 5th Friday the 13th since that day... now can't see that there was a scar below my lips or my right front teeth (left to you) isn't 100% natural... didn't have any effect on my speech or eating.. although I find my right teeth can cut meat better.. haaha..now who doesn't believe in Friday the 13ths?
Back to May 13th, 2005, Friday.. went to school as normal.. back to our home room... Maths 4.. miss the wide space in the hall though... had 1 and a half hours of school, then the rest of the school had to attend some briefing while I go for the Scrabble Exibition Match...
went to Toa Payoh HDB Hub... for the offical launch of the Speak Good English Movement 2005..

we were suppose to have a friendly exhibition match against Shuqun... help construct the highest possible scrabble game on the giant magnetic scrabble board... oxyphenbutazones, microtechniques, gravimetrically. the first 2 15 letter words scores around 1000 points each.. covers the 3 triple letter squares, giving a times 27 effect..

PM Lee was there.. other organisations were also there.. the British Council, National Library... So PM was walking around, talking to people of the various organisations.. Guess PM wasn't interested in Scrabble.. left without having even looked at us... there goes my chance to meet the PM..
many other TV celebrities were also there for the launch.. Kim Walkerman, (from Kids Central) Suhaimi Yusof, (Sergeant Dollah from Police and Thief).. like none of them came to see us play.. maybe a few aunties and uncles.. yar, exciting.. so much for the fame..

the uncles seem pretty interested..
Jill happened to be going to Toa Payoh.. so came and watched us.. she loves to bully Joel Koh though... keep wacking his hat he had on.. she stayed for an hour or so with us.. talking etc... each of us was also given a medal.. looks pretty nice.. gold coloured with the word scrabble on the front and "Offical Launch Speak Good English Movement 2005 Scrabble Exhibition Match" engraved on the back.. don't think it's made of gold though.. just some metal painted gold or the most gold plated... cool.. my luck seemed to be changing...
dismissed at about 4.. wanted to buy a book of scores.. the latest hits etc, for piano.. want to learn more songs... esp popular music.. had 10 dollars left.. and it cost more than that.. asked Kelvin if he could lend me some money... declined.. remembered that Jill had owe me some money for the 2003 christmas concert.. left sometime before us.. she said she was going to orchard.. anyway there's nothing much to do at home.. so what the heck.. took the train to somerset..
Somerset MRT brings back some memories of someone I used to know 2 years ago.. could remember that day like it was yesterday... anyway, went to Heeren to look for Jill... got my $10, then headed back to Novena.. found out that Celviano Music had moved, but still at the same level.. used to be just after the escalators.. bought the book for $12.. handed $20 to the cashier.. he didn't have any small notes... only $50.. and I had only 2 $10 notes.. so was kind enough to let me had it for $10.. O00.. Thanks Jill for helping me save $2.. haha

Exams Over! Had Bio paper 1 today.. Addison and Jun Feng taking science and bio, so they had to come in the morning for science paper 1.. if not we could have our bio at the same time as the science paper... bio starts at 10.. Dave and Wei Xun weren't here when we were about to move up to the hall.. so went to the hall without them.. Dave came around the time we reached the hall, although I didn't really see him coming in... now all waiting for Wei Xun... he came at about 9.55am, then everybody was clapping.. he think he's some VIP ar? even though we are the only class in the hall...
Bio mcq got some tricky questions.. and 2 questions repeated? Qns 1: Which of the following helps in the uptake of water in root hair cells. Qns 26: Which of the following is important for the uptake of water in root hair cells.. the choices were also the same.. dunno what Azman doing..
Lian Jie wanted to buy a piano... looking for 2nd hand upright piano, says he wanna learn.. dunno about him, but a acoustic piano a great investment.. think they are kinda bulky, thats why I got a digital piano... more cool looking, also can play at 1am in the morning and your neighbours won't complain.. they won't even hear it at all..
then remember had to collect a consent form from Mrs Koo.. going to some scrabble exibition match tomorrow.. at Toa Payoh HDB hub.. she also says some ministers also will be there.. and we are playing on a giant scrabble board.. just like your normal scrabble set, except one tile is already as big a a normal scrabble board... hmm... wonder what's it gonna be like.. find out tomorrow...

Chemistry Paper, Physics Paper 1 and Literature Paper 1 the day before.. the most papers in 1 day... better than last year though.. squeezed the entire mid-year to within 3 days... so like had 4 papers in a day...

Mother's Day today... had tuition in the morning.. bought the cake ingredients at the NTUC downstairs while waiting for me parents to fetch me after tuition.. was planning to suprise me mum with a cake... found that I was short of Chocolate.. so only wrote a M.. anyway the chocolate was kinda thick, doubt I could write "happy mother's day" even if I had enough chocolate... wasn't exactly Prima Deli or Angie... but its the thought that counts right??
then went out to eat dinner with me grandparents.. my grandmother is also a mother of me father too.. went to Jumbo Seafood at the Riverwalk there... don't really like seafood though.. not a big fan of crustaceans... fish is OK.. tried crab for the first time.. taste just like crab stick.. just don't like the spiky and hard shell... feels very much like a dissection, although we didn't do any at school..
walked around Clarke Quay after dinner.. brought my camera, so got some pics..

Just woke up at 10... slept through the whole afternoon... went to hougang mall after my physics and history papers today.. physics quite easy.. had been doing my notes since yesterday.. great feeling of doing something productive.. hah didn't really study much for history.. just read through the book.. the source based questions I can do... there was a mistake in the paper.. so obvious.. the sources were about the Cultral Revolution in China.. then qns 1d) study all sources. how far do you agree that the Soviet-Nazi pact was a mere convinience? look through the questions first and was wondering what does the Soviet-Nazi pact got to do with China? they corrected it to show the sucess of the cultral revolution.. thats section A.. got into trouble when got to section B.. the structured essay question.. didn't have much to write.. ended up writing 1/2 a page for the 1st question and 3/4 for the second.. hope my social studies will pull the overall up.. actually I knew I was taking a risk when I was focusing on physics the day before.. so when to the library to borrow some books.. Calculas for dummies ( A maths stuff) and a book on Chinese history.. wanted to borrow something on Hitler or Stalin though.. couldn't find it.. bought a gold and silver pen from popular.. they renovated the store since the last time I went there.. quite nice.. less reds, more modern look... wanted to get the black book.. to do my lit notes in.. sketch book with
black pages instead of
white pages.. nice.. can't use correction tape on it though. unless they invent
black correction tape, which I doubt they will... didn't had the size I wanted though.. the A4 sized one was alittle too big to do me lit notes in.. A6 one was too tiny.. like my handwriting can fit into an A6 paper.. haha
decided to take the train trip up to Compass Point.. lotsa school students there.. Nan Chiau, Sengkang, SJC, the near-by schools.. somehow, I wondered how it would be like in a mixed school.. well, I'll soon find out in about less than a year's time.. starting to miss my class, knowing how fast time flies.. before you know it, a year's up and we're going our seperate ways.. well bought my A5 sized sketch book.. still had some money left and I was feeling pretty hungry by then..

Maths and Social studies papers today.. maths was hard... first time I didn't have any extra time for maths 1.. think the only whole numbers as answers were the angle question... the rest of the answers all in fractions.. hope I didn't make too many careless mistakes.. social studies source based was on the Aceh conflict.. then did the question on British Welfare state for structured..
went to Compass Point with me family on Mon.. bought an A4 sketch book and a set of coloured pens.. do some notes.. then went with me cousins to eat dinner.. at Tampines.. Ah Gong's birthday next week.. the day after Mother's Day.. there was this Pasar Malam nearby. so we went there after dinner.. bought a potted plant.. some species of Rose I think.. this one hasn't bloomed yet.. the flower bud's there.. I think its through this kinda obvervations and experiments that I understand Science.. yes, a diagram from me Bio book helps, but nothing compares to the real thing.. to see Biology in action.. used to do some of me own experiments when I was in pri school.. like the baking soda to vinegar experiment.. fun, can make a film canister pop.. also got this electrical set as a present, got all the parts needed to build a motor, a bell.. thats the way I study? all these were done purely out of interest.. figured out how a motor works long before Mr Tan taught us the left hand rule etc.. revealing too much to my secrets to science already.. ahah
