Friday the 13th ain't so unlucky.. for this year that is...
October 13th, 2000, Friday... was Pri 5 at that time.. came home from school.. about 6+.. then went to Po Kiat's house, me neighbour.. was sitting on one of those toy cars thingy outside his house... then lean forward, slipped and my teeth hit the ledge of the steps... happened so suddenly... knocked one of baby teeth out, and chipped one of my permanent front teeth... was wailing in pain... grandmother took me too the dentist.. could walk, just had a bloody mouth.. used some ice and towels to relief the pain..
had stitches on my lower lip, temporary fillings to my right incisor.. the left big teeth to you.. braces to the 4 teeth, the 2 incisors and the 2 next to them.. somehow, I had bit through my lower lip with my upper teeth, chipped them, and displaced them a couple of milimetres to the front.. wonder if I didn't land on my teeth but on my forehead?? then Oct 14's newspaper headlines would be: "11 year old boy dies at neighbour's steps" scary...
returned to the dentist 2 weeks later to have the stitches removed.. it was black thread, so looked like I had some thick hairs growing out below my lip... removing it was more pain than stitching in on... was given anesthesic during the "surgery"...
the braces were only removed 4 months later.. quite scary.. use pliers to get pluck them off.. then was given new porcelain veneers.. quite intesting to watch.. was using a ultra-violet light thingy and the orange plastic to shield their eyes.. like something from CSI.. of course I couldn't see things that are going on in my own mouth.. was done quite well... couldn't really tell which teeth was real and which was fake... haven't really told anyone about this until today, the 5th Friday the 13th since that day... now can't see that there was a scar below my lips or my right front teeth (left to you) isn't 100% natural... didn't have any effect on my speech or eating.. although I find my right teeth can cut meat better.. haaha..now who doesn't believe in Friday the 13ths?
Back to May 13th, 2005, Friday.. went to school as normal.. back to our home room... Maths 4.. miss the wide space in the hall though... had 1 and a half hours of school, then the rest of the school had to attend some briefing while I go for the Scrabble Exibition Match...
went to Toa Payoh HDB Hub... for the offical launch of the Speak Good English Movement 2005..

we were suppose to have a friendly exhibition match against Shuqun... help construct the highest possible scrabble game on the giant magnetic scrabble board... oxyphenbutazones, microtechniques, gravimetrically. the first 2 15 letter words scores around 1000 points each.. covers the 3 triple letter squares, giving a times 27 effect..

PM Lee was there.. other organisations were also there.. the British Council, National Library... So PM was walking around, talking to people of the various organisations.. Guess PM wasn't interested in Scrabble.. left without having even looked at us... there goes my chance to meet the PM..
many other TV celebrities were also there for the launch.. Kim Walkerman, (from Kids Central) Suhaimi Yusof, (Sergeant Dollah from Police and Thief).. like none of them came to see us play.. maybe a few aunties and uncles.. yar, exciting.. so much for the fame..

the uncles seem pretty interested..
Jill happened to be going to Toa Payoh.. so came and watched us.. she loves to bully Joel Koh though... keep wacking his hat he had on.. she stayed for an hour or so with us.. talking etc... each of us was also given a medal.. looks pretty nice.. gold coloured with the word scrabble on the front and "Offical Launch Speak Good English Movement 2005 Scrabble Exhibition Match" engraved on the back.. don't think it's made of gold though.. just some metal painted gold or the most gold plated... cool.. my luck seemed to be changing...
dismissed at about 4.. wanted to buy a book of scores.. the latest hits etc, for piano.. want to learn more songs... esp popular music.. had 10 dollars left.. and it cost more than that.. asked Kelvin if he could lend me some money... declined.. remembered that Jill had owe me some money for the 2003 christmas concert.. left sometime before us.. she said she was going to orchard.. anyway there's nothing much to do at home.. so what the heck.. took the train to somerset..
Somerset MRT brings back some memories of someone I used to know 2 years ago.. could remember that day like it was yesterday... anyway, went to Heeren to look for Jill... got my $10, then headed back to Novena.. found out that Celviano Music had moved, but still at the same level.. used to be just after the escalators.. bought the book for $12.. handed $20 to the cashier.. he didn't have any small notes... only $50.. and I had only 2 $10 notes.. so was kind enough to let me had it for $10.. O00.. Thanks Jill for helping me save $2.. haha
