guess what day it is tomorrow? Teacher's Day, so naturally schools have their teacher's day celerations today..
woke up early this morning to bake some cookies for my pri school teacher.. after 10 mins of mixing and kneading and another 10 of baking, here's what I got..

can you smell that?? thats the smell of freshly baked Walnut and Chocolate Chip cookies.. yummy right?? you can close your mouth now..
now back to school.. the first part of the morning was the inter-house games.. so we just sat there on the gallery and watched them play soccer.. the sun was coming up behind the block and it became rather bright, can't really see anything when you are squinting most of the time.. so I moved to the quadrangle, where the touch rugby was going on.. most of my classmates were there.. Jason was holding some grudge against Gerald.. being petty and all.. and before you abuse my tag-board for your own reasons, don't.. just let it go and forget?
then had a teacher's day concert after that, singing, jamming and some piano by Zhi Hong.. brought my camera, but we were sitting at the gallery behind the hall.. couldn't get any shots without blurriness.. so wish it had optical image stabalizer..
went back to the Junior side along with the other 6GG people.. about half of us were there to see Sir..

this was like our annual meeting, don't get to see each other for some time.. so stood outside his class and chatted with one another.. talking about the good old days, about the wall outside our classroom we got to decorate before it was knocked down.. (didn't take a picture of it before it was demolished for prime, sad) gave Sir the cookies I made, chatted with them for awhile and said goodbye.. probably another year before we meet again..

coming to the end of the month already.. and 70 days to the "O" levels!
Mr Kuma came into class to video us today.. for the School's Leavers Ceremony, some video gonna be shown, footage of class life, people, memories.. then he got some people to reflect on the 4 years in the school, friends, teachers etc.. the vice and chairman, Bryant and David came up to speak first.. then we sorta dragged Yu Bin into this..

notice Yu Bin holding the textbook in his hands?? and Bio is on top somemore.. (hint: not many classes take bio)
the Leavers Ceremony's on 30th October, about 2 months from now.. seems like yesterday that we were only sec 1s.. gotta part with 9-year friends, some 4-years and a few 2 years.. already starting to miss them, knowing our days are numbered.. throughout this 4 years I've tried to be friends with as many people as possible, not just stick to a certain few.. think parting with more friends than a few good friends is more emotional, maybe its the diversity not just people like yourself.. I think the few people who would be somewhat emotional or even burst into tears would probably be me and Addison.. Would be bringing my cam on that day, hope can get my S2 IS, then can record better videos..
watched a film on the Glass Menagarie for lit today.. Timothy had CLB exams and Jason and Jonathan weren't here.. they missed out on a helpful film, but the class was quieter..
went to Serangoon North after class, has been a long time since I been there.. last time I went, the CC was still in construction.. just looking around the fish shops.. thinking of getting a aquarium, had one once in sec 1 but sorta neglected it after awhile.. rekindled my forgotten passion..

some of you may have recieved a e-mail or read that Mars would be the closest to Earth today and it won't be for some dunno how many hundred years.. well, its all a hoax.. read the article from NASA if you don't believe..
don't think you could see it in Singapore even if it was really true.. you won't see it cos of the light pollution from the city and cloud cover.. its very hard to see more than 5 stars in Singapore..
unlike in Austrialia.. went to Adelaide once in Pri 6, with the school.. we stayed in a farm.. the farm wasn't on extremely flat land, but the expanse of the farm was immense, all around was the farm land.. the nights were astonishing, could see the milky way, thousands and thousands of stars.. its was really magical, laid on the grass and just enjoyed the view.. even now at 16 I would still be fascinated by that sight.. just the awe of the galaxy makes you feel small, and how insignificant we are..
brought along a camera but couldn't take a picture cos it was too dark.. regretted that I didn't have a better camera with me at that time.. see if I can dig him the photos I took.. still remember it cost over $100 to develop the photos (was still using film at that time??) considerating one photo cost about 25 cents, thats more than 400 pictures?? some of the photos are quite stunning if I say so myself.. especially those of the Amazing Rocks on Kangaroo Island.. who knew that wind can scuplt such amazing rocks.. really want to visit Austrialia again..
think my love for photography started all the way when I was very young.. learnt how to load film when I was 4? graduating from a simple point and shoot film camera, to my first 2-megapixel Canon to my current Z-40.. maybe next would be Canon's Powershot S2 IS if my parents allow.. its 5 megapixels "only", yar there are 7 and 8 megapixels card cameras now, but can any of them zoom 12x? megapixels aren't the most important thing in a digi cam, the lens and optical image stabalizer are things to look for.. I rather get a small clear picture than a large blurry picture.. at least in the zoo I can say "eh, how come my tiger appear so big ar?"

Bio practical exam today.. think my graph part did wrong.. hope the other parts did correctly..
we saw Mr Tan before heading to the AV resource room.. told him about yesterday's physics lesson.. he didn't come yesterday, so Mr Wu took over, he used to be teach physics before he became VP.. for the first time everyone seemed interested in physics lesson..
Jun Feng was late, we had to wait for him.. he missed his bus, and 161's frequency isn't exactly fast.. did an experiment on osmosis, adding potatoe strips to different concentration solutions and examined a cucumber.. ate my cucumber slice after the practical, didn't soak it in anyway or add anything to it, only cut a small piece from it for the reducing sugar test, so why not.. not as nice as the mid-year's one though, grapes.. Heng Tee said his potatoe strip became Pringles after soaking in the concentrated salt solution.. yar right.. hope I didn't do any major mistakes for the practicals, if not would have a tougher time getting that A1..
then normal lessons after that, no quarrantine, cos we're the only class taking Biology in our school (for sec 4s anyway).. "O" level practicals still need to quarrantine for Bio, cause other schools got more shifts.. feeling the stress of prelims already.. which starts immediately after the sept "holidays".. probably gonna come back to school everyday or something..
did a comprehension passage for Eng SSS... quite challeging but manage to get the anwsers anyway.. alot of inference and explaination questions.. somewhat like lit questions already.. went to the National Library after that, returned a book and borrowed some more..

borrowed a booked entitled "The Russian Moment in History".. I'm kinda weak in history, so borrowed this book.. then got 2 other books on Chemistry just for fun..

got a free concert by JJ during the quarrantine time today.. had Chemistry Prelims Practical today.. woke up at 5 in the morning, slept quite early the previous night..
found everybody downstairs, guess the AVA resource room not open yet.. waited in the room till 7.45 i think (had to give up our handphones, so I'm clueless about time without my hp..) then went to the labs..
start 2 mins off 8.. read through everything first, scribbled down some pointers, underlined important notes.. decided to do the titration first, think I would take more time on that.. and I was right, screwed up the first one.. didn't really know when to stop, then after that found out must add starch.. yar, so end up taking 50mins.. but did 4 titrations just to be sure.. the solution was a creamy colour, sorta looked like milk tea.. resisted the temptation to drink it..
didn't have much time to do the VA part, had to up my pace.. not much a problem there, except I wrote Aluminium for the metal.. think I forgot to shake it to check whether it dissolves in excess..

Lian Jie's serious look when doing titration.. didn't really take this during
the exam, duh.. one of our previous practicals
then had to quarrantine in a theatrette for an hour... discussed about our titration values, the answers etc.. some people got way out answers, like Shuan's 10 degree rise (double the normal?) then JJ gave us a mini-concert?? started off when we asked him to sing his solo.. then followed by more songs.. quite nice lar, but erm kinda weird for a guy to sing so high?? one of the reasons I rather not be known by the same name as him.. and I don't think he was using a falsetto (false voice).. if only my phone was with me..

the prelims practical exams start next week.. then prelims immediately after the 1 week break.. feel like I'm at a crossroads now.. pretty soon I would be donning a set of new uniforms, shedding a name I've been carrying for the past 10 years.. new school, new teachers, new friends, new life.. looking forward to that, but inside, I know I'll still miss this school..
been looking around the JC's websites, what facilities they offer, what CCA achievements etc.. after Friday's symposium, I've a clearer picture of my future.. and after hearing what the PM has to say on today's National Day Rally, it really provide a certain hope for the future..
hope I can get below 10 points for prelims.. but I must put in my own efforts..

went for the Humanities Symposium @ SRJC today.. pass by the JC lotsa times, but this was the first time I ever went in?? the building not exactly new, about the same age as our school building I think.. has the 90s kinda feeling to it..

waited in their foyer for the rest of the people to come.. some other schools from the our cluster were there too.. quite alot of people came.. at least they had buses, we had to go on our own..
went into their Lecture Theatre.. been into a LT before once in NTU, so wasn't really new to me.. was quite big, maybe 500 seater? various speakers came up to talk about the various Humanities in JC.. Economics, Geography, History, Literature and Art.. the history one was the most interesting one of the lot..
overall, gave me a better idea of what humanities subject I would take next year for my contrasting subject.. maybe would take Economics or Geography if I can.. prelims coming already.. hope can do well so that I can get in in Jan.. thinking of going to St. Andrews or Anderson.. National or Victoria if I do very well.. Aiming for the latter 2 of course.. go study now..

chinese lesson suddenly became like a tuition class, only got 6 people.. and the rest of the class was empty.. the 3 of them met the VP today, so they didn't have to retake.. so left with 6.. mainly Bryant, Addison, Heng Tee, Xavier, Joachim and Me.. kinda nice... but the teacher can focus more on each individual?? hope can get a 4.. didn't really study hard for the June paper..
then had ALW.. doing some history stuff, our past exam papers.. one thing Celine pointed out was quite true.. students often don't think much about the metaphors in pictures/text etc.. maybe my Lit. background would have some advantage in history after all..

Matthew and Edwin were playing with the visualizer and projector during the break.. trying to make a scene from ET.. looks more like the startup screen of Nokia to me..

woke up at about 2.30am today.. Mr Low on some course thing for these 2 days, so got to go home early yesterday... played on the piano for awhile... getting the hang to the piece already.. then watched some TV, got something to eat, surfed the net.. before you know it its already 5.30am..
its seldom that I wake up so early in the morning.. mostly I wake up just about now, drink a cup of milo, bathe and go to school.. hardly a chance to eat a good breakfast.. so made some for myself today.. me brother and parents still asleep..

simple, but hearty breakfast of 2 silces of toast, 2 sausauges, scrambled eggs and a cup of milo.. ran out of hot water after making that cup of milo, so had to boil more..
then went for cycling after that.. bought a vallina frappacinno from the 7-11.. yumm.. already 7.50am now.. have to go to school..

got back my Chinese O Level Results on Friday.. from the start I knew I would have to retake, it was just a matter of how well I passed.. had Chinese Lesson straight after recess, dunno whether listening to the results on a full stomach is good or not.. when the teacher announced that everyone pass, I felt a relieved.. thought it would be a 5, but in the end got 6... not gonna include in my L1R5 anyway..
was kinda shocked that Heng Tee got 6 also.. I mean, he quite ok in his Chinese what, thought he would at the most get 4.. for once he was quiet in class.. only had 2 A1s in our class, Alfred and Wei Xun.. Alfred was kinda expected already, Wei Xun was kinda a suprise, but everyone congratulated him anyhow..
think I failed paper 1.. my compo write till damn sux.. but paper 2 was quite good, knew how to do all the "造句".. should blog more in chinese now, think it would really help my compo.. depending on my triple science to get A1 now.. my main worry is in Bio, hovering between an A1 & A2..
then went cycling at east coast on Sat.. just to wind down and relax, and not think about my results.. focusing on the future etc.. so just gonna leave you with his pic..

stayed up whole of last night to do a CME project.. was suppose to do either a poster or a reflection on respecting intellectual property/ piracy etc... so chose to do a poster.. spent the whole of the 5 days off think how to do it.. I knew I was gonna take a pic for the poster, but how to compose it..
In the end, after some sketching and some planning, came up with this..

No CDs were harmed in the making of this pic.

they are the exact same thing, but with different lighting.. didn't know which to choose, so printed out both.. eventually handed in the first one... the first one more of "caught red handed murder" kinda mood.. second one was more of "ORH HOR!!"
some of my classmates didn't believe I took that pic.. said it was from the internet.. think I was the only person to do something like this?? the rest just wrote reflections or drew some poster.. looks easy, but took me quite some effort..
the setting up took about an hour, experimented shooting with different lighting conditions (thought of using candle light at first, but used a bicycle lamp instead..) took another hour and finally cleaning the whole mess up took the last hour.. started at about 11pm.. then finally finished shooting at 2am.. still haven't edit the pic or anything yet..

basically just stuck a knife in the middle of the black CD with the chopping board below.. know those wooden kinds?? took quite abit of hammering to get the knife in place.. started laying some pieces of blank paper to provide the background.. then some blank CDs on top of that.. finally, the ketchup aka the "blood".. off all the lights, hooked my camera up to the tripod and started shooting.. fell asleep immediately after finishing everything..
then had English Orals today.. kinda nervous, cause I really want to get an A1 for English.. and the orals may just determine that.. conversation was about what course would you take in University.. so just told them about fuel cells, how it would change the world.. think I did quite well for orals.. the examiner on the right like never ask me anything at all, though I kept eye contact with both of them..
tomorrow getting back Chinese O level results.. nervous..

it's the 9th of August and you know what it means... Fireworks!! been very lazy these past national days, but this year I decided to be more active in it.. Cause its our 40th birthday.. Somehow, multiples of 5 seem nice.. had lotsa things going on these past 2 days.. this gotta be my most content packed post.. so here goes..
Monday
was almost late for school.. school starts an hour earlier so we can go home earlier.. but not used to waking up at 7 I guess.. was only when Yong Liang message me did I wake up, and that was already 7.10am and was suppose to be in school by 7.25?? was suppose to help the band for the National Anthem, so just threw down my bag at one corner, picked up a clarinet and joined the band..
the flag bearers marched in, the scouts tied the flag and we played the National Anthem.. was using the same 56 reed as M8, so had a very resonant sound, great for outdoor playing (and solos too..) was playing through the school song halfway when the first few drops of rain fell.. we managed to play finish the school song before it started to get too heavy and the whole school went for cover..

yar, a wet start to the day.. had to go to the hall not soon after that, receiving the awards for best in various subjects.. was best in Physics last year.. watched some videos on the yesteryears of Singapore, the National Day music video.. then it was the prize presentation.. all the best in subjects were from E1, then those subjects we don't take like comb science was from some other class.. let me see whether I can still remember who's best in what..

so the 9 of us rejoined the 3/4 of the class in the gallery after we recieved our prize.. a cert and a $10 popular voucher..

was a sea of red and white downstairs.. something different from the all white we used to see every assembly.. played the national day music video again to buy some time before the company came.. JJ was dancing again.. watched a play entitled "13 o'clock news".. more "government influence" about defense and such.. ended at 11am as stated.. so had roughly an hour to go home and eat before badminton..
me brother came along to play.. he's from the junior school badminton team, so he's got some standard.. met Matthew, Shermann and Jun Xian at the sports hall.. booked 2 courts so we played singles while one of us took turns to rest.. booked one court for only an hour, so spent the 2nd hour playing doubles.. Zhi Hao joined us later, so just nice had 6 players.. paired up and had a sorta king of the hill format.. me and my brother stayed there for quite some time, in the end, just purposely lost to get a rest.. haha..

was rather tired after that.. so slept for awhile but had another event at night.. the fireworks.. wanted to meet Jill for dinner, but she had to eat with her mom and her friends.. so roamed around PS for like 3 hours till they were done?? went to Istana Park opposite to rest my legs and to get away from the hustle and bustle of the shopping mall.. was some people rehearsing some hip-hop moves and a few couples.. so just sat there and watched the cars go by..
only met her at like 10+.. at least she apologized for keeping me waiting.. took 400A to the carnival.. could hear the concert going on even as we were walking to the area.. it had rained in the morning and the ground was rather soggy.. the plastic sheets they laid over the ground wasn't of much help.. found some empty seats at the far end, and just talk the time away.. wasn't paying much attention to the concert going on.. all the die-hard FIR fans were all near the stage, so wasn't much going on at the stands..
Taufik and Rui En came to sing the National Day theme song.. heard enough of it already, but at least this one was live.. was drawing close to midnight.. the countdown started, 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1.. and the fireworks started.. the fireworks were slightly blocked by the trees, but they were nice anyway..now for the pics..



Coincidently, the spotlight was shinning at the right direction when I took my pics.. looks like its piercing through the fireworks.. nice..


managed to take this pic of us and the fireworks together.. coincidently, I was wearing red and Jill was wearing white?? also took some video clips, see if I can upload some..
waited for some of the crowd to disperse before making our move.. Jill bumped into her friend along the way... they haven't seen each other for a long time, and they both live in Yishun.. so I decided to leave them alone and go back by myself.. reached home at 2.30am, had something to eat and plonked onto bed..
Tuesday
went to see Marina Square there to see whats left of the parade.. couldn't get tickets so this was the next best thing.. parked the car at PS and took the MRT to City Hall.. was really packed.. haven't seen City Link so packed.. came out at Raffles Link, the mobile column was going past there, so got a glimpse of them...

"I wonder how do I get to the Padang.." hah..
went to Marina Square to take dinner first.. the food loft was packed.. everyone was trying to see the fly past.. could see the chinook carrying the state flag circling round in the distance..
the fly past was going on when we stepped outside.. could hear the roar of the jets from inside..
went onto the Benjamin Sheares Bridge to see the fireworks.. wasn't crowded at the beginning of the bridge, but as you go towards the middle, its more packed than a peak hour MRT train.. people had to inch their way through, ever been to some exihibition at Suntec or Expo, you know how it feels.. finally stopped somewhere in the middle.. some cars were stopping in the middle of the bridge.. maybe next time they should close the bridge for a few hours just for the fireworks?? people are gonna stop anyway..

this the best pic I could get.. couldn't even move my elbow without hitting someone, not to mention setting up a tripod.. so no point taking pictures... would turn out one big blurry mess.. waited quite a while before the fireworks started.. took a video of the whole thing.. (not exactly whole.. missed out some in the beginning..) which you see on the right..

had the 2nd Singapore National Youth Scrabble Competition today.. they didn't have one last year and the 1st one was a ITE Dover.. Didn't have the challenge cup this year, so I guess we won the 1st and only challenge cup?
had to report in school at 6.30am, didn't have much problem waking up so early.. because I woke up 6 hours before that? read some word list, played 1 game with myself before heading for school.. couldn't come for training cause like all my days are packed? all my other classmates in scrabble didn't want to go because of their studies? I've no problems with juggling my studies and other activities.. felt I should go as I was like one of the first sec1s to start off the scrabble club.. the others tagged along some time after..
Ms Naz hired quite a big bus for the 20 of us? those 32-seater kind.. there was a heavy mist hanging around the forested areas beside the expressway on our way there.. first time I ever seen anything like that happen in Singapore.. don't really get to go out so early in the morning.. reached Marsling about 20 mins early, took a quick group photo then registered.. still had to wait for quite a while for the other schools to come..

Scrabble Competition
the pairings were picked by lucky draw.. so we faced Nayang Girls for the first round.. sometimes I think I shouldn't challenge some words.. then your turn you can capitalize on that and put a high-scoring word.. happened twice in that game.. argh.. so in the end only won by less than 100.. below my average..
things started to pick up on the 2nd game.. faced Fuhua.. won by 240, twice his score would be mine.. haha.. our team had a total of 9 legitimate bingos in that round, so we won some novelty prize for that.. at first heard that Bukit Panjang got 11, so I guess some of their bingos were not legitimate??
3rd round we faced Northland.. that round, the novelty prize was for the highest spread.. but our spread of 1296 was not even close of the 1900+ spread of the winning team... so far, none of us has lost a game.. that was until round 4.. faced Pasir Ris Crest.. was a really close game, worthy opponents though.. my opponent had a bingo, so I responded by my own "Easting" and "Valleys" after that.. but he still manage to catch up in the end, was neck to neck in the final moments.. lost by only 27 points.. that was the only game our whole team lost, even Kelvin? just our luck to pick them..
next round was my bingo spree.. faced the host school, Marsling.. we had a friendly here not too long ago, so we know each other already.. had a bingo on my first move? and 2 more following that.. Nazrul was kinda paranoid after the first 3 bingos.. had a 4th but couldn't put.. dunno why but I always had this kinda bingo sprees in the final rounds of competition.. happened the last time at Suntec..
so in the end we got 1st and 2nd Runners up for Team 4 and 1.. me being in Team 4.. kinda unexpected the sec 1 team won something.. alot of unexpected things happen in scrabble competitions, like Nanyang Girls winning 3rd in the Cup catagory?? if only we didn't face PRCS in the 4th round..

Friday again.. suppose to be a short day, but got this Topical Test thing on Phy and Bio... part of what the school calls "Supervised Self-Study" or SSS.. sounds impressive, but its just a bunch of test on various subject after school.. anyway, the lessons before it were quite interesting, especially JJ in Chinese lesson..
had the last speech day for Eng lesson.. Orals on next Thurs.. so this was good preparation for orals.. Mrs Pereira decided to go in an alphabetical order, so it was Darren, Daryl, Henry and Timothy.. Darren's speech was quite ok, but the topic he chose wasn't that interesting.. advertisement?? Daryl was just reading from our Bio notes on Smoking?? don't think it was that good.. Henry's speech on Racism was interesting.. think the 2 speeches on Smoking and Racism were both pointing at Alfred?? hah.. Timothy's speech was quite similar to what Alfred has said about unruliness in the school.. about the "not so bright" classes.. thats all I can say, Tim could get into some trouble if the people he mentioned hears about it..
think the best speech amongst the whole lot was Dalton's one.. was something he was passionate about, soccer.. some of the speakers I think lack the interest in their topic, like it was something forced..

Darren's Speech
then had Chinese lesson after recess.. Teacher was teaching the idiom "过街老鼠", direct translation would be "street crossing rat", unwanted/hated person.. then he relate to us how big was the rats in olden days.. took his forehand to measure then drew on the board.. JJ was like squirming in his seat? then took the plastic water bottle to compare the size.. can't really descibe the scene that happens next.. hmm.. try saying "ahh" in a high pitched voice and wave your hands with your wrist loose..
the teacher must be wondering what would happen when he goes to NS.. then Yu Bin, I think, went to tell JJ there was a rat under the table.. then JJ was like grabbing the sides of the table and shaking.. dunno whether to laugh or pity him.. wonder what would happen when he goes to JC.. where there are gals??
then had Physics and Bio topical test till 5..

nothing to blog about these few days.. did nothing much on the weekend, been quite normal days yesterday too.. found some old photograph while my my father was clearing stuff from the storeroom.. found this photo, which I think is the earliest one which had me and my brother?

was taken in Sept 1993, about 12 years ago.. was 4 then and my brother weeks old?? can't really remember when the first time he came home.. but I knew was sleeping on the mattress when I heard somebody opening the door.. went out to the hall to see whats going on.. didn't really wondered where he came from.. yar, didn't really ask the most feared question by parents: "where do babies come from?"
