except the rather uneventful eve of the eve, the rest of CNY was quite good..
Saturday
had our reunion dinner on the eve.. though not really "reunion" in the full sense of the word since we see each other every day.. but its still a tradition...

Ingredients for a reunion dinner

Rice

Mushrooms

Veggies, Fishballs and Crabsticks

and the most important ingredient: Family

then went to Marina Bay with some of my ex-school mates to watch the fireworks.. met Lam, Bernard and Lian Jie at Hougang MRT... as we were tapping our ez-link cards.. Lam realised he forgotten to bring his wallet.. so he went back to get it and meet up with us later.. Addison, Alvin, Keck and Lam met up with us at Dhoby Ghaut.. not suprising to see Addy bring a big bag of snacks with him..
although it wasn't as crowded as the last time we were here on New Year's Eve, the traffic flow was slow.. the stalls set up there made me hungry.. anyway, made our way through to One Fullerton.. not much people there though, so we found a spot to settle quickly.. opened some chips and drinks and chatted for awhile.. this time there was space, so why not practice some firework shooting.. set up my tripod and cam.. did some practice shots on the boats passing by before the fireworks began..
and sure enough, the fireworks began on 12midnight..

wanna thank Alvin for doing the watermark for me... really appreciate it.. you can visit his blog at http://blueprint3d.blogspot.com/
the fireworks were nice.. though the impact as not as strong as when we were on the Sheare's Bridge, we had more space for ourselves.. took some more pics after the fireworks ended..

Coke and Lay's anyone?

took the MRT back at about 1something... thought of going to the 24hr HongKong Street Restaurant at Kovan, then found out it was closed.. so went back to Hougang Green's Mac.. bought a 20 piece nugget and ate.. didn't feel like 3am in the morning though.. with some other customers eating, the staff and the music, felt more like 10pm or something.. got back home at 4 and slept upon lying down in bed..

Sunday
went visitation today as we have always been doing for the 1st day of Chinese New Year.. though I've been to their houses many times, I still not quite sure what's their relation to me.. My mother's cousin's or something..
Visitation has always been quite convenient for us.. for a start, 5 or so of them live along the same street.. so its quite systematic for us.. then went to Ah Gong's house to have dinner..

Monday
a busy day at my house... probably the only day where so many people comes to my house... preparing the food and drinks, setting the tables, moving stuff.. cousins came first.. played xbox, com etc.. Joel came over to pass me the Senzoku Gakuen CDs.. ya, 6 weeks became 6 months..
the food was great, all homemade by my aunties.. didn't really do a full coverage of the event though.. but enjoyed myself more..

food!

haiz.. so much for Chinese New Year in CJC.. other than the short 1 hour concert, I really don't feel the festive mood at all... maybe I shouldn't have came at all... wasn't like that in Montfort though.. though we may not have such a nice concert but the atmosphere is there..
at least had our PE lesson first.. quite a number didn't come to school at all, so had a nice number to play basketball after our running.. quite worried about napfa test in JC, esp my 2.4.. don't want to go for the extra weeks of training in army because of that.. my stamina really sucks.. have trouble holding 12 counts of long notes on my clarinet.. must train hard for my 2.4...
then proceeded to the Performing Arts Centre for the CNY concert.. the drama club performance was very funny.. the hongkie accent of the narrator really cracked me up.. could see some influences from our finale night skit in there.. really fun to watch.. the sing-a-long by ODAC was even more fun.. sing the following to the tune of Dragostea Din Tei..
"恭喜发财, 红包一个来
红包一个来, 红包一个一个来..."
"Gong Xi Fa Cai, Hong Bao Yi Ge Lai
Hong Bao Yi Ge Lai, Hong Bao Yi Ge Yi Ge Lai.."
can't remember the rest of the song.. and also their rendition of "老鼠爱大米" or as I quote "old mouse like big rice".. hahaa..
too bad the fun stopped once we got out of the PAC.. had normal lessons after that! not even half day... we thought of just pon-ing after the break but in the end, no one did.. so stayed till 3pm.. sad.. miss CNY celebrations at Montfort, get to wear outside clothes (red of course) and had the festive mood all round.. and most importantly, had no lessons! miss seeing the sea of red, the balloons, the atmosphere, the teachers singing etc..
then went to J8 with Hannah and Rommel.. had roti prata at food junction.. ate finished first so went to walk around to leave them two alone.. thought I saw my cousin with her friend.. looked at her, but no response.. could be sure it was her in her st marg's uniform.. hmm.. so they just walked past me.. weird..
went back to join them, chatted for awhile then went to popular.. went to some other shops after that.. thought of watching the fireworks at 8 but couldn't find anyone to go with me, so here I am now..

had our class outing after school today.. met up with our facils and went to Marina Square.. went to Carl's Jr to eat.. ordered the Portobello burger... quite filling.. then went to the bowling centre.. me and mike changed into outside clothes to play pool while the rest bowled.. learnt quite alot since I first played last dec...though not as pro as some people.. played for an hour before the rest came to join us.. took a quick pic as some needed to go home..

mike went to eat with his family, so stayed and played with the rest of them.. Hannah and Serene didn't know how to play, so the guys taught them.. anyway, paired with Rommel and played with Dominic and Serene... was also the first time for Rommel, so don't blame him for missing some of the easy shots.. think my accuracy is improving, potting more long range shots now.. but still noob...
played till like 9.. everyone was staying in different parts of Singapore, but none stay even close to Hougang.. so ended up taking the NEL alone..

another week had passed just like that... time really does seem to speed up when you are older.. hiaz..
went to watch my first NC16 movie with some of my classmates on Monday.. Derailed.. quite an intriguing storyline... with violence, vulgarities and even rape you can see why it got rated NC16..
Tuesday
had to stay back for dentention together with Daphne.. she was late on Monday... and also got caught for not wearing the blue t-shirt.. and I thought I was unlucky.. class ended at 4.. stayed back to give thank you cards to our facilitators..

awww...
detention only starts at 5, so waited in the canteen together with Daphne.. saw Marcus sitting all alone at the study area, waiting for his parents to pick him up, so asked him to join us.. found out the reason why he has an American accent, his mom was American.. guess he spent alot of his childhood with his mom..
chatted till 5, where we had to go.. waited quite awhile before he showed up.. showed her some of the videos in my phone to kill time.. it was already 40mins past 5 before he came with the file for us to sign in.. quite a number of people at the study area for detention too.. talked about our secondary school life and lotsa other stuffs.. before you know it it's already 7.. dentention wasn't so bad as I imagined, especially with someone to talk too..
Wednesday
had PE in the morning today.. did some warm ups and 2 rounds around the track.. went next to the block G to do some other exercise with the benches.. inclined push ups, hops, dips to train our arms and legs.. had a couple of mins to play some games.. was supposed to be playing volleyball but ended up playing basketball with the volleyball instead.. hahaa..
Thursday
had a 2 hour chinese period in the afternoon... the teacher let us try our hand at calligraphy..

wonder who wrote this..

messy..
went to town after school to meet Jeanna for the ticket... 132 didn't go direct to PS so alighted somewhere near Borders.. supposed to meet at 4, so had some time left.. browsed through some books and magazines at Borders before setting out for PS.. bought some fries from mac to snack along the way.. the walk there wasn't really far (not as far as the last time I walked to PS in 2004 ..) arrived ahead of schedule, but turns out she's still Bugis.. took the train to Bugis and waited at the fountain.. got my ticket and we went to the basement to eat.. March and 2 others joined us later on.. haven't seen them for a year or so..

starting to believe in this Friday the 13th supersition.. was late today for school.. woke up quite early and wanted to try 156 to school.. the walk to the bus stop took quite awhile and 156 didn't seem to come.. so took 70 to Serangoon instead.. and 153 didn't come exactly early, so by the time reached school was 2 or 3 minutes late.. at least it wasn't as bad as 6 years ago..
had our first PE lesson.. can't change in class now, unlike in a boys school.. hiaz.. did some warm-ups then ran round the track twice.. measured height and weight next.. didn't grow during the holidays.. had the 1st of the 2 1hour breaks.. found out it was Kevin's birthday on Sunday, so decided to help him "celebrate"

preparing the present

woa.. Levi's

what could written on it I wonder..

traumatised already..

follow what's written..

hahaa... so went for break and had another 2 more lessons before break again.. then GP and Geog.. band practice was stressful.. then tues still need to serve detention.. would be weary of Friday the 13ths from now on..

Monday
stayed in school while the other half of the college went for their outdoor activities today.. did some administrative matters in class.. such as choosing the various subject reps and stuff.. so I was the Chem rep.. then had a break and headed for the grand stand.. the performance people (including me) went to one side to practice while the rest of the house practiced some cheers...
played Albus Plumboris, so had only a few lines to say.. it was a parody on Harry Potter.. and Draco is now the good guy since our house is also Draco.. the rest of the skit was real funny though.. lotsa parodies on other films like LOTR and Mean Girls.. I'll give a brief transcript of the skit..

starts off with the the beginning of Harry's life.. Albus, thats me, comes in with baby Harry and I have a duel with "Appassmort".. Then he gives him a feather shaped scar.. ya, the skit got lotsa poking fun at other houses, but it wasn't my idea..
15 years later at "Hotrocks", Harry, Ron and "Armani" talk about him coming back.. quite comical though... next scene Harry and Draco are locked in a fearsome eyestaring contest when the "plastics" come in... (yes, if you have watched Mean Girls, you would know how they would act..) they ignore Harry giving the disgusted "uhh.. no..." kinda look and proceed to check out Draco.. upon laying eyes on Draco, one of the girls faint.. then Draco, being the nice guy in our skit goes to help her up, where she faints yet again.. then another girl steps over her body and lures Draco into a dance.. it was basically an exerpt from our mass dance..
Harry and Draco confront again.. asking him why he gets all the girls and challenges him to a final battle.. the sidekicks of both side come in and it suddenly becomes a wrestling match.. for the WWF, World Wizarding Fedearation, tag-team championship.. more parodies yet again.. Harry Pova introduces his brother, "Shara Pova" and his godfather, "Sinus *sniffs* Black" and on Draco's side there's "Chio Chang" and Appassmort..

"Sinus *sniff* Black" and "Shara Pova"
so Appassmort castes his spell and I die.. (ya, I fall down 2 times in the skit..) then they fight.. in the end, Harry's team falls and the referee counts 1, 2, 3 and rings the bell.. End of Skit..

so quite boring issn't it.. but it was fun acting it out.. I had only 2 lines so I watched most of the parts.. had our dinner next.. dunno why the Muslim stall cooked so much food when there's not enough people to finish it all.. the Chinese food wasn't as good as Friday's.. quite hard to swallow if you asked me.. alot of people didn't finish theirs..
the rest of the college sat in their respective houses while the performance people went out to get ready.. got dressed up and got our props
watched some of the other houses first before our turn.. our performance gave the audience much laughs and it was pretty good..
watched a video montage of our orientation next.. the first few days, the dragonboat, the amazing race, the icebreaker games, the classes, the friendship.. got a few shots of JJ in it.. acting normal..
paired up with Jocelyn for the mass dance next.. didn't have much space to move around, so ended up banging into people all the time.. the second round was even more fun.. not often do I get to dance with a gal... then Finale Night was over.. felt like sec 1 orietation ending all over again..
went back to class to take some pics..

24
went out to eat as a class later.. went to prata house... other classes had the same idea and came before us so we ordered take-away.. went to Mark's house to eat.. reached home slightly before midnight..

Wednesday
had our commencement ceremony to start off the academic year this morning.. a short mass, some prize presentations and the ceremony itself.. the lighting of the new school candle etc..
missed the first period which was PE, and so it was break after that.. 2 new students came to join the class.. so 24 now has 24..
had our first lecture next.. Chemistry.. Mr KB Ong (dunno why, but his name sounds funny, maybe its the KB part..) was quite funny.. "I'm always serious" and everbody starts laughing.. could see he's trying to suppress a smile too.. Geog and Chem tutorials next and we just completed our (rather short) first schooling day..

went for CJC's band orientation this morning.. watched a montage of their band activities.. then went down for some games.. introduced ourselves and played some games like wacko.. had our various sectionals next.. sounded quite like a section for our first time together.. practiced for a while, then headed back to the band room.. sight read Spartacus, Watchman, tell us of the night and another Jap piece.. can't remember the name.. was suprised I could play reasonably well even after so long not touching a clarinet.. the conductor also commented that my sound is quite good but lacks projection or something..
then went to eat with the other 2 guys in clarinet.. the rest of the J1s being gals.. went to KFC to eat.. shared some of our experiences in camps and all that, since we 3 are from boys schools.. they planning to have a section outing next sat..
rushed back home to change and went back out again.. met up with Elwin, Dave, Bernadette and Meichen at Suntec.. been more than a year and a half since our NTU attachment.. went over to Marina Square where we played pool.. Aizhen joined us sometime later and we went to Swensen's to eat some ice-cream..

yum.. do I sense the earth quaking?? the ice-cream was delicious.. liked the almonds and caramel toppings.. the gals dared Dave to inhale some of the dry ice.. could see the mist going up his nose.. said that it smelt like urine, but we really didn't want to know..
bought a packet of Wang Wang to eat while we walked to Esplanade.. too bad Wang Wan wasn't here.. went to the waterfront, one of the most overly photographed places in Singapore, to have a group pic..

Dave, Elwin, Me, Bernadette, Meichen and Aizhen.. all from different JCs.. SAJC, SRJC, CJC, RJC, NJC, HCI.. went to glutton's bay.. had satay, hokkien mee and carrot cake.. they had prawns in the Hokkien Mee (obviously) and Dave didn't know how to peel them.. so Dave and his prawns became the topic of the evening.. all had a good laugh with Dave..
walked back to City Hall interchange where we parted.. the gals on the opposite platform to Jurong and us to Dhoby Ghuat..

sorry for the lack of updates during this week.. JC's been pretty tiring..
Wednesday
2nd day of JC.. started off the morning with some outdoor games.. a modified version of captain's ball.. only the girls can score and no guys within a certain zone.. all the while been playing sports with guys, so this was something different..
then the facilitators brought us on a tour of the campus.. where what was.. then it was the mass dance again..
then had the CCA talk.. and the CCA bazaar afterwards.. deja vu? feels sorta like the open house again.. anway, signed up for a few of the CCAs I'm interested in.. namely symphonic band, film sound and video and interact club.. see how it goes..
Thursday
got spilt into our various classes today.. great knowing the people from IG 3, even though we only spent 2 days together.. got into class 1T24.. pretty much brand new faces except one.. Linda was also in my class.. hahaa.. played double wacko before going into class.. our classroom just nice near to the canteen, but disadvantage is everyone walks by..
met our home tutor, Mrs Chin.. she's not that young, probably in her 50s.. learnt more steps of the mass dance then went for a talk on JC life.. think Bro Paul has a wicked sense of humor.. caught one gal for sleeping.. "Don't try me.. I can see every single one of you.. I know.. I designed it.." had a briefing for tomorrow's outdoor activities before heading home..
Friday
went to Kallang for our outdoor activities.. went Dragonboating first.. sorta reminded me of the first time I was here.. Sec 1 orientation camp.. man.. those were the times..
got our life-jackets.. the colours kinda "funky".. us with our bright blue pe-shirt with a bright pink life-jacket.. got into the boats.. their more of boats than dragons if you know what I mean.. dunno why, but our instructor always bring us to some corner, isolated front the other groups.. secret training maybe??
went up to some other classes to disturb them.. splash water etc.. quite fun.. then had 2 races.. came in 3rd i think.. not too bad.. started to rain when we were about to finish.. washed up and played some games before lunch.. lunch was probably one of the best packet lunch I've eaten.. the meat was nice.. there was a dog there, staring at us eating.. begging for the meat I suppose.. in the end, gave him some.. took our first class pics after that..

the number of girls to guys not that bad 8:14.. unlike one class which has 22 girls and 3 guys..
had our Amazing Race after that.. first station required a pair to bring a soccer ball using the part of our body on the piece of paper we drew.. palm and palm was the easiest.. then went across the Kallang river to the next check point.. "where King Arthur lives" a condo named Camelot.. haha.. started to drizzle after the National Stadium checkpoint when we were going to cross the Nicoll Highway..
still drizzling when we reached the checkpoint.. we were suppose to use whatever items we had and ourselves to make a chain to reach a certain point.. so the guys took off their shirts.. it was cold and wet enough there even with our shirts on.. but got the 2nd best time to complete that checkpoint..
then crossed another bridge to the next check point.. had to form guy-girl pairs again.. task here was to hold a coconut between the waists and walk to the plate with barley and tic-tacs.. using our mouths only, had to get a tic-tac from the barley.. so had to hold each other tight if not the coconut would drop..
went back to opposite the west entrance for our last checkpoint.. had to form a human chain and find some toys hidden around the area.. was a rather big army truck at the top of the scuplture.. suprised the other group didn't see it..
went back to school and had a bidding session with the points from the race.. we got a packet of wang wang, which is quite good already.. "It's white.. It's fluffy.. It's edible.. It's used at barbeques. " so the classes bid for that item.. marshmallows? no.. tissue paper.. luckily we didn't bid for it.. so Mark, the auctioner, had to eat it to prove his point.. hahaa.. but the prizes kinda low budget though.. think the morning session got all the good stuff..
stayed back till 7plus to rehearse the skit for finale night.. I had only 2 lines in the beginning, then I die in the end.. so nothing much for me.. then went out with the other skit people to eat.. maybe would bring my cam to record the skit on monday..

probably thousands of other blogs around the world (not just Singapore) are gonna report on their first day of school.. well, this is mine..
my father offered to drive me to school since he's not in a rush to work... didn't know traffic was so packed on the roads.. guess lotsa other parents are also driving their child to their first day too.. reached CJC at around 7.30.. first thing I noticed is the amount of white pants and pinafores there..
met up with the rest of the Montfort people there.. namely Dalton, Bryant, Xavier and JJ.. so that makes our school 0.685871% of the total JC1 population there? nice..
spilted up into IG groups at the hall.. then had morning assembly..
they had sorta impromtu skit.. called up "one of us", scolded him for his dressing etc.. looked kinda serious when he suddenly says "anyway, welcome to CJC" and gives him a hug.. haha.. then they called up each of the groups facillitators and introduced them to us.. but really, with 32 groups, there's no need for everyone of us to know every group's facilitators, just those that concern us..
had some icebreaker activities.. asking everyone to give a massage to the person infront of you.. kinda reminds me of Empower-U but on a much much larger scale.. gave a massage to Daniel and Jenny gave one to me.. well, the first 2 new names of the day..
showed us their mass dance next... I know they want to spread their energy onto us, but I feel its way too early in the morning for this.. the groups scattered around the campus for more icebreaker games next..
then a huge coincidence happened.. turns out that Sean (my "team-mate" for the NTU attatchment) was also in my group.. so at least 1 familar face in the crowd.. gotta know more new names and faces..
endured a long speech on subject combination next.. most of the info I already known.. then went to use the coms to register our subject combinations.. chose Chem/Phys/Geo as first, Econs as second.. think this comb would be most useful in my future line of work..
went to the hall after lunch.. had to learn the mass dance.. everyone was paired up boy-with-girl.. got paired up with Linda.. the facilitator (can't remember his name) asked who has never hold hands with a gal before.. and JJ put up his hand!! really, this is one of the many incidents I wouldn't want to share the same name with him..
the dance was a refreshing experience for me, and I'm sure the many boys and girls from single sex schools would also agree.. went for more games after that and got back to the hall to be dismissed.. today was fun.. can't wait till tomorrow..

Happy 2006 everyone!
sorry for the late post, was dead tired after NYE..
had the family gathering in the afternoon.. was also my cousin's birthday.. yea, he's born on Dec 31st.. definately would be the youngest when he goes into Sec 1 on tues.. (and we thought Dec 25th is the worst)
anyway, met up with Lam and gang for the countdown.. went to PS for something to eat.. got BK while the others ate at Yoshinoya.. had to use the toilet, so went off first.. Keck called to find out where I was then passed the phone to Alfred.. it was what I heard inbetween that really made me sad.. "Why should we go look for him?!".. I didn't mind Alfred's not so polite way of hurrying me, but at least he shows he cares.. can't say so for the speaker of that line..
went to sit down to think.. and to answer that rhetorical question, "because thats what friends are for".
Bernard and OYL went to look for me.. Bernard cause I asked him to and OYL cause of his own ego.. maybe Bernard's too caught up talking to OYL, but I don't think he didn't notice my body language and tone listening to the ratio of words spoken between the 2 of them..
Marina Bay was what I had feared, jammed pack of people.. the others finally caught up with us and we proceeded to the Sheare's bridge.. Lam and Yu Bin came up to me and ask me what was wrong.. at least I know who my true friends are..
well, the bridge wasn't as crowded as National Day, but it was still crowded.. decided not to take any pictures of the fireworks judging by the amount of cameras there.. actually thought of having a group photo with the fireworks as a background, but there simply wasn't enough space... so gave up my spot for a couple..
the fireworks started off without any warning? and according to Lam and Yu Bin who went down to the bay area, there wasn't any countdown.. well, the fireworks video filled up my 1GB card.. had to delete some pics to make room for more pics..

think I forgot to turn off the long shutter.. so the streaks you see there are the result of camera shake.. but at least the background can be seen.. everyone was in a festive mood, wishing each other Happy New Year even to strangers.. somehow, I wasn't in that mood.. yes I know how I am in that kinda mood, I would have also wished strangers Happy New Year, shaking their hands even perhaps foaming other people if I had foam with me.. Alfred and Shaun would know about that.. but I wasn't..
met up with the rest at Esplanade.. Lian Jie was with his colleague and Gary was suppose to be with them.. so I guess Lian Jie had a great time watching the fireworks with his female friend.. great for him..
met Saiful who was also there with his friends.. haven't seen him since M8.. walked around Marina Square to find something to eat.. eventually got to Carl's Jr and settled down.. ordered something to eat so Gary thought that the drink on the table was mine.. where infact, I only order a burger.. hahaa..
took Taxis back to Keck's house to spend the rest of the night.. played on his electone for awhile.. frequently ran out of keys, so had to make do.. before you know it, the night was almost up.. wanted to catch the first sunrise of the year, but they didn't see from my view.. so went alone to catch the sunrise..

dawn of a new year
what a gloomy start to the new year.. but at least the air was cool and crisp..
