Saturdaywent for band practice in the morning as usual.. can't really remember if anything special happened.. then went out with Wei Jie and Wee Chong to Mac to eat first.. there was some birthday party for the kids going on.. then had this game where they had to gather some things like say, a 1 cent coin etc..then joked with Wei Jie that if they were asked to find a musical instrument, he better hide his clarinet.. he looked kinda suprised/scared when suddenly this kid walked past and brushed against his chair.. hahaa.. but then the kids probably won't have any idea what a clarinet is..
I mean, come on, the clarinet is like one of the least famous of woodwind instruments.. of course everybody would know whats a flute, whats a saxophone.. bet there are some people who been through the education system till JC who don't even know whats a clarinet.. like when I say I'm from band, then my relatives ask me what instrument I play.. I need to explain whats a clarinet.. "know that black instrument with silver keys??" hiaz..
then met up with my classmates at Marina Square.. they were at KBox.. my 2nd time there.. only joined then for 2 hours, but still had to foot the $20 bill each.. damn ex.. then played pool for awhile before going to the food court to eat..
had chocolate fondue after having my beef noodles..
Chocolate Fondue!gotta be the ultimate treat for someone with a sweet tooth like me.. could almost taste the chocolate in my mouth right now.. can you?? Jun An cleaned up the rest of the chocolate I left behind with his prata.. chocolate prata anyone? and Simon finished the rest off..
went to take some pics at the Australia exhibition below.. like those backdrops of nice scenaries as the background.. accompanied Michelle on 857 to Yio Chu Kang.. not really sure where the bus went but took the risk anyway.. pass by the "hand chicken" shop along the way.. been like 2 years and they haven't change the sign.. alighted with her then took 70 to the interchange.. 72 and I'm home..
Sunday
went to watch X-Men 3 with my family.. the movie wasn't as nice as the previous 2.. but the effects were awesome, like the Golden Gate scene and the Jean Grey part.. then went to Orchard to meet up with the rest of the hip-hop people and Mr Larry.. Michelle didn't go.. hiaz.. went to Heeren there, wanted to go to Marche, but found out it had closed down.. then went to the Korean restaurant upstairs.. the Kimchi was more like lettuce/cabbage with samba chili.. still can't beat those you get in Korea.. took some pics there also.. with the kind assistance of the restaurant lady.. don't think she mind after we spent like $120 there..
Me, Shao Xun, Hu Nan, Hui Yu, Mr Larry and Carine in the middle..
went to take some neoprints next..
please let it be nice...
yeah, its nice..
have the shiny glittery metallic effect also.. quite worth the $10.. by the time I got home, fell asleep almost immediately.. then haven't packed my bags for camp..

some pics I took while waiting for the photos to be done on Thursday..
Reflections..
Sihouette..
Pano.. (click for larger image)
Light Trails..quite lucky to get such a magnificent and dramatic sky just before sunset.. just vivid blue sky, accented by yellows and reds.. it had rained some hours before, so there were still some puddles of water left.. thought it would make a nice composition with the reflection of the sky and all, but felt it lack a subject.. so went on to look for a piece of rock or something.. think its now more impactful..

at the library now.. did some homework, think its the only time I'm free.. sent some pics to the photo lab to get them printed.. 5 8Rs and a S8R for the clarinet section pic.. $25! they would be done in another 2 hours.. anyway, wanna talk about the past few days.. 2 days of disappointment..
Tuesdaywas suppose to be the last lesson for hip-hop, then rest of them had already prepared a small gift for Mr Larry.. but had band practice so could join them to buy it, also was late cause we had a last practice before our lunchtime performance on Thursday, which is today.. but when I walked into the MPR, another instructor was there.. nice lar, the last one and he's sick.. then dicussed with the rest of them on where to meet him, thats the least we could do for teaching us.. though we were paying for the lessons anyway.. for the fun he brought us I guess.. haiz..
Wednesdaytook some pics as a section after band ended..

2nd pic abit blur cos of the low lighting.. OIS would be a great help in this case, too bad I didn't bring my tripod along..
Thursday
then as some of you may have seen from my msn nick, was suppose to give a small sneak preview during morning assembly to promote our concert to the school.. Kok Whey, Mei Ying and I stayed back to practice our flute clarinet saxophone trio for Beauty and the Beast to quite late, way past 7 I think.. then came extra early today to rehearse one last time.. then guess what, when we were about to get onto the raised area of the assembly ground, Mr Nathan denied us.. "No, no.. No show.." nice lar, we already all ready with our instrument standing there.. the 3 of us stood there dazed, watching the other announcements etc.. felt like SYF day again.. think in fact, many events in my life have been like that, O levels was one.. its like I prepared so hard to it, there shouldn't be any plausible reason why I can't achieve it, but yet, I miss it by a nanometer.. am I really that unlucky..? just 1 point, just one word, just one minute and it would be totally different..
on the flip side, got to play on a Prestige clarinet.. Wei Jie was playing with my instrument during the photo shoot, then dunno how he trip and fell.. causing the C#/G# key to be bent.. ah!! its like bent until cannot be properly pressed.. think if that was his own instrument, probably would jump down already.. apologised profusely to me, then lent me his RC Prestige Clarinet for a day.. or till morning that is.. the Prestige sounds just like I would imagine, a very nice pure sound.. you just go, Wow...

woke up not long ago... damn tired from the whole day out yesterday.. went for photog's outing in the morning, followed by NJC's Funtasia and my own walkabout..
the feel from waking up on Saturday morning is totally different from waking up on any other day of the week.. there's a sense of anticipation and excitement, sorta like when your parents were bringing you out to your first visit to the zoo.. the zoo I've been to quite a number of times, the botanic gardens I've been to twice, but this time's different..
met at orchard mrt at 8.45, then went off at 9.. went in via Minden Gate, the reverse from what I did.. anyway, tried the dSLRs..

was grouped with Sean, he was also there for the Dragonboat Fun Race.. the 350D with the 1.8 50mm lens really can compare to my S2, very compact.. the shutter sound also much nicer, gives you a satisfying "click" sound when you take a pic.. but obviously, you can't use the LCD screen for framing, can't take videos and the pictures you take might not turn out the way you see in the viewfinder.. probably would wait till Canon comes up with the successor to the 350D before I would consider making my move into the dSLR realm.. I'm quite satistfied with my current step-up...
anyway, we went on into the Orchid Gardens.. a must-go for any trip to the gardens..

ok.. the last pic may not be an orchid, but its interesting.. but still can't get the nice out-of-focused background the dSLR can.. still can distinguish some shapes even at max aperture, compared to the creamy smooth shade of green the dSLR can produce..
took some fun shots while we were there too..

no idea what were they doing for the last 2 pics.. spotted the ever allusive squirrel on a high branch.. quickly changed the lens for the 350D and snapped away.. damn fast, probably half the shots were nothing.. it daringly jumped from tree to tree to escape us.. if we had a faster lens with the 30D's burst mode, could probably capture it in mid-air.. that would be damn cool..
and before you know it, its already noon.. went out with some of the photog people to play pool.. lost like 3 time in a row, guess shots with the camera aren't the only shots they are good at.. won a few time though, but only due to Hui Yen helping me hit 3 of my balls.. I've seen double shots but a triple shot and all 3 are your opponent's balls? nice...
went to taka with them to eat, was starving after not eating breakfast.. then went to behind taka to take 171 to NJC Funtasia.. not very familar with that area of Singapore, so mostly based on my gut feeling on where to alight.. has yet to fail me yet, so got to NJC around 3.15.. the school's quite nice, cept for the narrow linkway to the bustop.. was suppose to meet Bernadette at the canteen, and I had no idea where the canteen was.. was expecting a more square shaped area with lotsa tables and chairs... turns out I walked past the canteen.. the canteen's more of a long rectangular shape with a splendid view overlooking the field.. nice.. could see myself just sitting there watching the people on the field if I somehow got in..
Bernadette was wearing her orange class tee, so spotted her straight away as she walked in my direction.. but somehow, she turned back.. met up eventually.. gave me a little tour of the campus.. very nice and big.. probably would get lost on the first day here..
her class was doing a games stall, one of the games was sorta shouting/screaming game, to see who can shout/scream the loudest, the get some prize.. complete with the decibel meter and all.. attracted lotsa attention if you can imagine.. got me a drink and she had to go off for a concert already..
found out that 74 and 156 also passes by NJC.. 156 also passes by NYJC and CJC.. took 74 back, had my cams with me, and I didn't feel like going home so early, so alighted at MacRitchie..

saw this cute brother and sister pair(I assume).. they were like holding hands and skipping together.. so sweet and innocent.. wished I had a childhood like that.. also saw quite a number of couples and families in the reserve.. then there's me, all alone.. just thought of the things we would be doing if I had a gf.. walks in the park, watching the sun set, things that I'm currently doing alone.. not that I've not many female friends, probably more than than you would expect someone from an all-boys school for 10 years.. just haven't found the one yet I guess...
anyway, some monkeys came while I was resting.. literally monkeys, the Long-tailed Macaque (Macaca fascicularis) if you wanna be more specific and not what you call your playful little cousins..

don't be fooled by those placid looks.. they can be quite crazy at times.. a pair did a quickie infront of me.. incase you don't know what that means, there's a more vulgar 4 letter word starting with F.. damn sick.. they just hang around there, scratching, helping each other to scratch etc.. the occasional fights.. in short, not bothering me.. would be very much different if I were to bring out some food stuff from my bag.. after awhile, they got bored and moved away..
went over to the other side of MacRitchie, where the fishing area was.. people fishing, families enjoying the Saturday evening..

just makes me smile seeing how much fun they were having.. reminded me of the times that I used to spend with my dad and how much that has changed.. took some last shots of the evening light before I went.. just a simple panaorama..

2 Weeks to AE! and we still haven't sold many tickets yet.. damn pathetic.. not that I haven't been going around promoting the concert, but seems like people just not interesting in NYJC.. just hope can get more ticket sales from 0621 and Montfort band.. going back on Mon to help out and at the same time try to sell tickets.. coincidentally both bands are playing 1st Suite in Eb and An American Elegy..
Wednesdayfirst period having chinese oral, screwed it up.. ahh.. today was the volleyball finals, so the school sent the entire J2 cohort and sports CCA and interested J1s to cheer them on.. 0621 went, but I hah band practice so didn't go with them.. Danse Diabolique now sounds much more exciting, maybe due to the faster tempo we're taking and the introduction of the Eb clarinet part.. its a very technical pieces, and there's hardly any rest in the tempo.. leaving audiences sittiing on the edge of their seats..
the band's making progress in the pieces, but I still feel that although each of us can play our individual parts quite well now, but when put together it doesn't seem right.. I can feel the potential in this band, probably will become a Gold band if we really work towards it.. anyway, thought of some ideas that I can do to help improve the band.. seems like Hui Shan can read my mind, was thinking of doing a photo shoot too.. would give everyone a sense of belonging, like get everyone in the section to sign on the photograph then stick it on the section's cupboard or something..
won't post any of the other sections pics here.. incase they reject.. Vicky wasn't there, so Clarinet section had to postpone..
Chester doing what looks like a skateboard trick..
also announced the Ex-Co members after band ended.. felt the same feeling as I did nearly 14 months ago.. was sorta Deja Vu.. was disappointed that I wasn't in the Ex-Co, but then the same resolution reappeared.. not getting the rank I wanted or the position I wanted never has and never will stop me from contributing.. as I've said in that post, "Not for Rank, but for Band.."
ThursdayChemistry SPA in the morning.. needed only to do 1 titration.. tested on Skills C and D anway, so don't think the titration would carry much marks.. just hope I identified and explained the errors and such correctly..
then went out to PS to watch The Da Vinci Code with the class afterschool.. think its a new record in the attendence for any class outing.. 21 out of 24..
Ping Chong holding the $176 strip of paper..the movie's damn nice.. don't wanna spoil anything for those who haven't seen it yet..
The Da Vinci Code, go watch it..actually brought my S2 hoping to snap some sports carnival heats action, but it was already 5 when the movie ended.. took the MRT back to Hougang, was walking back home when I realised I had S2 with me.. practiced some panning shots..

MondayWee Chong borrowed the Eb clarinet from his school, so now we have an Eb clarinet.. yeah! but its quite old and its the 2 joint type, on the flipside, its a RC.. tested the instrument out for awhile during the break.. been quite some time since I played an Eb.. memories jolted back as I heard the bright and brilliant sound..thats one thing the characteristic of the Eb, bright and brilliant compared to the more mellow and dark sound of the Bb, though the Bb can reach the high notes of the Eb but it could never sound the same..
got the scores from the band room for the pieces we were playing, esp 1st Suite in Eb.. Danse Diabolique also has some important parts for the Eb.. really need more practice to get it more perfect.. Li En was highly excited when she saw we had the Eb clarinet.. so let her play for awhile since she was practically jumping up and down.. first time the instrument has contact with a gal's saliva considering its from a boys school.. hahaa.. Li En was also causing everyone to feel stressed during sectionals..
went to see how the class was doing on the project tile thing.. project tile, not projectile..
hard at work..
my section of the tiles..
the big picture..got everyone's unique representation on each tile.. like a spider for Simon, Mashimaro for Jin Hao, a flying shoe for Hek Ming, a stick figure doing a handstand for Joel etc..
Tuesdaywas almost late again today.. but got to school in the nick of time.. nothing much special about school today.. maybe for CT period.. did some games, one involved finding numbers in a jumbled up pile.. then did that again as a group, showed us teamwork etc.. then had physics test, did quite well, 3 out of 4 questions correct.. Ms Ng gave us a formal invitation card to our class after that.. with nicely printed out maps and such.. then dicussed on what to wear on that day.. anyway, I already have lotsa formal attire from all the concerts in the past..

Thursday2-hour chem, 2 lectures and our day's over.. went with Yong Huan to rent the lockers.. $28, so that works out to 10 cents a day, quite worth.. then got to choose our locker no. and 14 was taken!! it was also just nice at the most acessible 3rd row too.. at least got a locker at the 3rd row before it was all taken.. first time getting a locker too.. but I don't bring much things to school, so this locker just to clear up some space from my messy room..
then went to Habourfront with the rest of the class, 14 of us anyway.. was broke after spending on the lockers, so only got a drink.. Me, Jack, Michelle and Sok Hua went to PS to enquire about the puzzle we were gonna buy.. the puzzle world outlet at PS didn't have stock, so went to Suntec.. and on the way there, met Rachael at the bus stop.. what's so weird about this was, this issn't the first time.. she was with her boyfriend I assume, so didn't want to disturb them.. she probably can't recognise me in brown anyway.. got to Suntec and they didn't have stock.. our Physics teacher getting married, so our class wanna buy something for her.. tried Marina Square as our last stop, and luckily they had it.. Jack quickly whipped out 4 blue notes and bought both the puzzle and the frame.. damn nice.. and damn expensive..
Jack had to carry the frame back, very funny... like one huge plastic bag would attract lotsa attention..
Todaypassed the completed video cd to Yu Bin first.. was suppose to meet up and send the stuff to Zhi Hong, then realised today's a public holiday and the post office issn't open.. think it'll reach him after Monday already.. even DHL can't deliver that fast..
then went to PS to meet up with my class.. they were at LJS eating.. got a quick lunch and we proceeded to Tiong Bahru.. going to Jack's place (his house, not the restaurant..) to assemble the puzzle..
went to the park for awhile..

got to Jack's house, he had a piano in his room so played on it for awhile while the rest rested (unknownly created a tongue twister..)
so got to work on the puzzle..
hmm, I wonder where does this piece go..
Almost done..
Yea.. Finally finished!!took slightly less than 2 hours to complete the whole zig-zaw puzzle.. probably would take weeks for 1 person to piece together.. anyway, its a stained glass puzzle with mickey and minne getting married and disney characters all round..
a closer look..then had to rush off to toa payoh.. my family having dinner at the mouth restaurant there.. celebrating Mother's Day before the rush on Sunday.. the sliced beef kobe style was nice..
played pool with my bro before heading home..

wah.. wish the day has more than 24 hours man... just not enough time for everything.. Monday had our clarinet sectional in the band room.. Wei Jie was teaching the rest how to get a better embrosure etc.. commented on how good my embrosure was.. I know I can produce quite a nice sound, but it can't be that good to warrant a compliment from a tang xiao ping student right??

"If only can copy and paste your embrosure.."
"Can.. mouth to mouth method.." then got a whack by Wee Chong.. hahaa.. anyway, our section only got 4 guys, the rest all gals.. anyway, by the time I got home, was pretty much worn out.. ate dinner then fell asleep not soon after..
tuesday, my longest day.. had a fire drill during our break?? why must be during out break, why not during some lesson.. had napfa test in the afternoon the 5 stations.. the gals stayed back to watch and cheer as guys on.. anyway, quite good except for pull ups.. 51cm for sit-and-reach, think those stretching and moves during hip-hop made me more flexible.. hahaa.. last time the most only B.. 251cm for standing broad jump, beat my personal best by 1cm.. sit-ups 43, all the guys like made a sorta agreement to stop at 43, A already what.. shuttle run, 9.41s.. then pull-ups only got 7.. actually did like 9, then 2 no count... waste my energy.. only thing that didn't get A.. anyway, its always left to my 2.4 to determine what award I get.. hiaz.. hope can get at least Silver..
then like spent the entire night compliling and editing the videos for Zhi Hong.. did till 3am, then only slept by 4.. wanted to complete the whole thing, burn into a VCD and send it off with the rest.. but think now maybe need send to him online.. then another day of school, maths lecture was rushing damn fast, like flash, copy, next..
afterschool was more hectic.. yet another simultaneous thingy.. went for photog's meeting while the rest of the section had lunch together.. gonna have another outing with SAJC.. hands on with dSLRs.. Felicia also mentioned something about me mentoring?? but then it'll clash with band practice on sat.. ate the grilled fish set, a muffin and drink under 6 mins.. must be very hungry..
busy, busy, busy..

in the mist of writing my chinese compo which I have to hand up tomorrow right now.. hiaz.. gotta improve on my chinese.. if I were to write about the same subject in both english and chinese, the chinese one would take twices as much time to write and probably lesser words too.. I mean, have to process first before writing anything down.. the day thoughts just flow from my head and I can pen them down in Chinese is the day I do well for Chinese..
anyway, just wanna blog about Sat.. and to reiterate how busy I am, had to conduct 2 events simulataneously.. met my PW group and my Montfort friends at the exactly the same time and place at Hougang Mall.. discussed PW with my group with they went to eat.. showed the clips we did on Mon since I brought my laptop there.. the cleaning uncle also like watching while we were watching.. then went to do the video shoot for Zhi Hong while the rest of my PW group typed out the GPP draft.. threatened to rain so changed our location from outside the food court to the void deck..
outside the food court no chance of anybody interrupting us or we causing any disturbance.. but at a void deck its kinda weird when you have people walking past and wondering what the heck are we doing.. was like some illegal gathering.. and Sat was polling day..
then forgot to ask them for the shipping cost there.. probably Addy gonna pay for us first or something.. a 2kg package already cost $99.90??? gotta edit everything, organise and get it all ready by Wed, or even DHL can't get there in time..
got back to the food court and they had already typed finished the draft, got my laptop back and went to the basketball court where they were playing.. made a few clips of them playing and trying to do the move Zhi Hong always does.. then went to Hougang Green to eat.. ordered satay and Alfred made a clip about that.. not gonna say too much incase Zhi Hong is reading this.. so gonna leave you with this pic...
Satay..so Zhi Hong, drooling already?? gotta get back on writing my compo now..

a busy friday... printed out the attachment forms and such, almost late because of that.. gave some thought into it, then decided not to go for it.. 4 weeks attachment really is a big commitment.. though I would make new friends, its really tedious.. my 10day NTU attachment 2 years back already enough.. maybe would go for a Overseas CIP project in the year end.. much more fun and enriching..
maths lecture test for the 1st period.. quite easy though I didn't really study much.. luckily nothing on AP/GP came out.. the MI question just nice finish before time's up.. then PE didn't bring my shorts.. the gals having napfa test, so us guys did some practice on standing board jump, pull up etc..
then chinese test and gp.. dismissed at 1.15, one of my earliest days.. but then have band practice so ends up being my longest day.. went to i-space to dicuss PW.. meeting up tomorrow to do a first gpp draft.. then simultaneously, doing a video shoot for my friend who's in Canada, Zhi Hong.. guess I'll have to leave my cam with Lam or something..
immediately after that, had to do some admin stuff for photog yet again.. kinda fun doing these stuff.. get to look at people's pics, but then, only a small percentage can be considered good-looking.. hiaz..
and immediately after that, went for band pract.. think sectionals are getting more productive now.. sectionals till 7.30 and I haven't eaten since morning.. stomach growling already.. and guess what, theres a huge traffic jam outside.. probably caused by the hoardes of people coming to watch WP's rally.. waited at the bus stop there for like 15 plus minutes before the bus came.. went to chomp chomp with Chuan Xin and Wee Chong.. had pork chop, the sause kinda reminded me of the western food stall in CJ..
took bus back with Chuan Xin, turns out she lives near me.. just opp my school.. wonder if we had ever seen each other before unknowningly..
just 3 words to describe my life currently..

tests and more test... had GP and Econs test on tues.. gots quite alot of ideas for the essay, but I think I didn't really expand and elaborate much.. hiaz.. Econs test was better.. was broken down into lotsa smaller sections, no long essay to write.. had a sense of achievement when I handed in the paper.. my first econs test.. didn't get stuck or anything, went quite smooth.. write everything nicely, draw the diagrams nicely..
then today.. had a sercurity seminar on NS and stuff.. just 2 years away.. time really passes too fast.. there's also an attachment programme with some research insituites at the year end.. again, qualifying factors, distinction in english, maths, 2 pure sciences.. damn, again short-changed.. really wanna go for this attachment, 2004's NTU attachment was fun.. knowing how things have turned out for me, I kinda know what to expect already.. but I'll try anyway..
got to know our PW group numbers during PW period.. Me, Joel, Jin Hao, Bao Bao and Sarah were
NY 100.. 100's a nice number, but 101 sounds nicer.. I mean, if you're gonna introduce your group.. "Hi, we're NY 101.." has a ring to it..
phototaking was next after the talk.. thought of taking a class pic together but Jack had to go off for his foreign student meeting..

notice how he has to lower down abit? hahaa...
waited for 0622 and 0623 to finish then went up to the library to do the admin stuff.. rename each pic according to the class list, then had to sort into classes etc.. of course my own class was easy, no possibility of mixing up names etc.. but other classes had to check carefully... while renaming the pics, got to know the names of some of the faces I've seen before.. most like chinese names, so quite short and easy to spell.. only when got to like indian names got to double check... but only encountered 2 or 3 in the 5 classes I've done so far..
then went off for band.. they were at LT 1 watching some videos.. by the time I went in, was already the ending part for American Elegy.. then had the follow up of the elections for ex-co.. was one of the last for the top 15 voted.. most of them were here for the 1st 3 months so like got an advantage? had to give a speech on what can you do for the band etc.. much better than the one I gave 2 years ago..
also printed 2 5R pics from Synergy of the percussion ensemble.. was planning to put on the notice board but found out theres not enough space..

another tiring weekend.. looks like busy weekends are the norm for me now..
Saturday had band practice in the morning... was voting day, had to nominate some people for the ex-co.. then like we just starting to know each other and expect us to choose? I mean, holding the voting during the camp would be a better idea wouldn't it..
then went off to watch the mantinee Synergy performance.. some excerpts from Synergy..
Modern Dance..
Percussion Ensemble aka Junk Jam..
Street Style Society..
Jack, Simon, Min Jun performing with the CO, so most of our class came to watch.. discussed PW with my group members after the show, then went buy bubble tea.. dunno whats with them and photo hunt..
then accompanied Jin Hao to Somerset for his tuition.. then saw some skaters skating past me, then realised that I haven't been to Somerset Skate Park yet.. tried to follow them but lost them.. walked around abit and eventually found it.. didn't take much nice shots.. was almost 6 and the sun isn't its brightest, so the pics turned out blurry due to the action..
then had to go off for my grandfather's birthday dinner.. took MRT all the way to Bedok..
Todaymet up with some of my Montfort friends.. went to Hougang Mall to do a video shoot for Zhi Hong.. BTW, Zhi Hong if you are reading this, expect to recieve a package in your mail sometime next week.. just you wait..
