finally have some time to update on YPSB's concert..
had the photog course in the morning.. reviewed some of the pics we took last session.. didn't really take much pics as compared to the others, but there's more acceptable shots.. particularly like the one of the boy watching the busking performance.. would try to get those pics that I took..
then had to rush back to college for the concert.. took taxi, so made it back in time..

they were preparing the gift for Dr Stotter.. its a photoframe with the pics of the 4 bands in it.. ours was the "odd one out" in terms of quality.. haha.. AMK also did take a group pic at that exact same spot as ours... can see the difference in terms of lighting, bounced vs direct.. then theres other irritating nit-picks like one person wearing different colour from the rest, not wide-angle enough etc..
can't help but feel I should have done more for the photos.. but Gloria only told me about this a week ago, I offered to do the pics for the other bands but she said they already took the pics..
anyway, moved percussion instruments etc.. the usual logistics prior to concerts.. the school's damn high class, can be mistaken for some hotel.. VCH looks inferior when compared to their auditorium.. got very big space before the stage door, theres some dressing rooms upstairs which you need to climb the stairs to get to.. ours was on the ground level, and it has its own toilet and shower!

had a rehearsal with the whole YPSB.. the acoustics of the auditorium not that bad, though maybe a wooden reflector like the one in esplanade would be better.. but don't think it was built for music, by the looks of it, think its more suited for dance, theatre, the sort.. they had very nice posh red velvet seats, the decor also seemed to be for theatre type..

had the giving out of gifts next to our juniors.. speaking of that, went out to get those $1 capsule things on Mon.. Huai Yu wanted the glow-in-the-dark one and Chuan Xin wanted the grey one.. then just went out to try my luck on the machine.. guess what, one turn and the glow-in-the-dark one came out.. hahaa.. had a smile on my face when Huai Yu came back from buying food.. she was like "Jeremy!! I want!!" wah, never felt so wanted before.. had another $1 coin with me so tried again, and a grey one came out this time.. heehee.. can't believe my luck..
anyway, the various sec schs had their rehearsal next.. the 4 bands were playing a piece each for the 1st half.. we were playing 1st Suite's 1st mvt..
then went to change and have our dinner.. took some pics at the same time..

me, chester and carol..
Wei Jie and Li En were playing some duet piece when everyone had left.. more evidence.. then had our $3 dinner at the canteen.. Matthew came early, so intro him to Mr Neo.. Matthew recognises him but don't think Mr Neo does.. hahaa.. seemed like not long ago that we were sec 1s... Mr Tan had asked 2 photographers to cover the concert itself, took some band pics in our attire before the concert starts.. had a little chat with them.. focused more on the backstage since they were gonna cover the actual concert.. the concert started at 7, we were the last band to perform, so had to usher in people, do the reception etc.. mostly parents and friends came..
1st Suite was not quite good.. the first few bars the trumpets didn't come in.. at least the climax at the end with the extremely high notes was more or less in tune..
started off the 2nd half with Joy Revisited, quite a easy piece.. followed by A Moorside Suite.. I had a 1 bar solo with the flute in the fugue part, like one continuous flow of notes.. the 1st Clar starts first, then the flute and I pick up the melody and pass it on.. somewhat like a musical relay race if you wanna see it that way.. the rest of the concert was quite ok..
the usual take pics after the concert has ended..

they insisted that I take a pic with them..
YPSB was fun, though had to put up with reaching home at 10pm at times.. though it was only 10 practices, got to know some of them quite well.. hopefully they would come to NYJC after sec sch, but by that time, I would already have graduated.. gonna miss them...

continuation of the previous post..
met Charmaine outside cj, haven't been there for a long long time.. met Rommel at the bus stop there also, but didn't have much time to talk since our bus came quite fast.. went to Pepper Lunch to eat, there was some mix up with Charmaine's order.. when I looked at the receipt I figured out why, Cashier: Trainee.. then took the MRT down to city hall and walked to the museum.. was quite packed, but funny thing was, although the award has the word "Young" in it, but don't really see much young people there..
the usual prize presentation ceremony procedures.. an opening speech by the organizer, by the minister etc.. being a prize presentation for a photography contest you would expect lotsa photographers there, and you'll be right.. the amount of flash output can be blinding, and I'm standing in the audience..
then everyone was invited to view the winning entries..

some of the entries exhibited there were.. Wow.. you can view the winning entries at their site.. http://www.sypa.org.sg/results.html most of the winners were in their 20s.. think the minimum age of 13 is quite redundant lar, if they had 2 separate age categories then maybe there's some chance of winning..
there was a reception outside also, maybe we shouldn't have eaten.. the design of the plate quite interesting, there's slots to allow you to slot in forks and spoons and even your drink..

have some time before meeting Charmaine later.. she also participated in SYPA, so going with her to the prize presentation/exhibition at SAM later at 7... anyway, its been a hectic week (or 4/7 of a week anyway) for me..
Monday
stayed up to do the 1st draft of my EoM, finally finished at 3plus, then still have other homework I've haven't touched yet.. only managed to catch an hour of sleep or so, and still haven't completed it.. went to school by myself early since I'm already up.. then had the workshop with Dr Stotter after school.. till like 8plus.. came home only at 9 then fell asleep almost immediately..
Tuesday
woke up in the wee hours of the morning again, got started on my chinese compo which was suppose to be done yesterday, managed to complete one page before heading to school.. there were some spectacular cloud formations lit by the dynamic morning light.. too bad I was in the car at that time, the sight was gone by the time I reached school.. probably the first time I got to school so early for my dad fetching me..
an extremely long day till 5.15.. damn angry with myself for getting myself in the afternoon PE.. technically I didn't fail my napfa, just some irritation school rule that says fail and bronze must go for afternoon PE.. nice lar, all because of my 2.4.. just need a few more secs to get a D, then the rest can A already..
stayed back to finish up all the homework that I owe.. Kok Wey, Regina and Leon were having a meeting at outside the staffroom when I came by to submit my work.. was already 7plus by then.. reached home 14 hours after I left for school.. nice..
Wednesday
for the past 2 days been getting to school way early, then wednesday over-slept.. only woke up at 7.. knew there was no way I can be on time already, so didn't bother to rush.. then the normal school day.. had photog meeting to discuss about the farewell party for the J2s, and the course.. then got the 2 cams I'm suppose to bring on Sat, probably only can go there for the most 2 hours..
then the memory cards were with the teachers, actually thought something like this would happen, but didn't bring that backup card.. nice lar, then suppose to have phototaking later, so rushed back home to get it.. and its only 64MB, seemed quite large when I first got that digicam, but by today's standard its puny.. so only shot in medium quality to save space for the important shots..

the whole band..

another tiring 2 days of band.. suppose to be a long weekend with our off-in-lieu holiday on friday.. but had to come back for band practice.. had our workshop with Dr Stotter, used An American Elegy and Songs of Sailor and Sea to work on.. worked on dynamics, phrasing, expression etc on American Elegy.. sounded as good if not better than for AE.. like cresendoes have to start softer, a expontenial cresendo instead of a gradual one for more impact.. actually knew some of these since sec sch, of course, what use is this info to a person compared to a band..
had our lunch, the another practice with YPSB.. can't remember anything from that practice, only that it ended quite late.. then had a commitee meeting with Mr Neo.. oh yea, don't think I mentioned this, but coincidentally, Mr Neo who recently joined the school, was also a Montfortian.. knew him in sec 1 when he came back to help the band for M5, he was the BM for the 96 batch I think.. who knew 5 years later we'll meet again..
then sat had the percussion concert.. had practice from 9 to 6.. ya I know, it was a extremely long day.. at least we went out to have our lunch and dinner together..

Gloria and Kok Wey, the MCs for the night..
starting to get a hold on how to cover events already.. the 30D had only half batt left so was kinda worried if it were to run out of batt halfway.. luckily it managed to survive to the very end of everything, just nice ran out of batt when I wanted to do a review of all the pics..

started off with a marimba solo by Mr Pan, the instructor for the percussion.. then some duets and a combined piece where everybody played entitled Consortium.. quite an appropriate title since it's a combined percussion section from 4 schools..

there was also a snare drum quartet by the 4 guest players.. quite fun to watch.. a mixture of percussion and acting.. somewhat like what Canadian Brass did..
also had a percussion and flute duet..

quite comical.. Mr Pan took out the cymbals at first, the signalled to the audience if he should play this.. then went back to take the woodblock, before finally whipping out the tambourine..
its tango for flute and percussion, so can feel the salsa/dance style in it.. also had a suprise piece, the super mario theme song on the marimba..
thats about the whole concert, not exactly the best summary/review of it.. then they wanted to take some group shots after the audience left.. had the 50mm 1.8 on and the kit lens was still in the band room.. nice, can't even frame half of the group in.. luckily I brought my S80, another incident where wide-angle saves the day..
reached back home quite late, had a committee meeting debrief till 10.. each person had to make some comments on today.. some admin stuff were brought up, then came to my turn.. brought up the issue of lighting, which turned out to be quite a valid point.. think only me and Mr Neo noticed the lighting was quite bad, like there wasn't much light on the performers..

had our racial harmony celebrations today.. actually had some small events for the week but this was the finale of somesort.. the whole class wore enthic costumes, so probably would make a clean sweep of that racial harmony dressing competition..
had the double lectures after the break, quite funny.. seeing most of the LT in brown and the right side very colourful, there were others in enthic costumes but they were spread out.. took some pics after the lectures ended..

Hek Ming with the girls..
got the working flash from the darkroom, so tried some flash techniques.. the batteries damn slow lar, need to wait like 15 secs for it to recharge.. the above pic was taken with the bounce flash technique, like you tilt the flash head to 60 degrees so that the light would bounce off the ceiling to your subject.. looks more natural doesn't it? unlike the harsh direct flash of your compact cams..
then had a "fashion show" during the common lunch break.. switched bodies to the 30D since the rest of the photog members were there.. feels more balanced now, the 350D with flash attached abit top heavy..
didn't get any spectcular pics from the fashion show.. went to the canteen to see what else I can take.. the people wearing costumes brought their own digicams to take.. so helped them out alittle bit.. find it quite akward taking the pics initially, but when I asked nicely, got some fantastic shots.. year-book quality stuff..
don't think I'll post the pics here.. just look out for IMG_7014, 7020, 7022, 7023 and 7026 when the pics are uploaded to the college website.. which would be sometime next week..
tried some portraiture while waiting for the prize presentation in the library to start..

think it reflects Jin Hao's character quite well.. he's the inquisitive, always ask questions sort.. if only the tip of his ear wasn't cropped off.. argh..
was half an hour till 3 when I realized I needed to get some batts for the flash.. rushed to the 7-11 nearby and got some batts.. left my stuff with Sarah, but when I got back, the cam wasn't on the table.. panicked for awhile, then looked around and saw it with another group of people studying there.. one thing I don't like, is that she doesn't inform me of stuff.. had a similar incident once, was doing my own practice in the band room and left my bag at the exactly same study table there.. then she just left leaving my bag there.. at least she could have called me to tell me she was leaving or something.. luckily nothing happened if not I would be in deep trouble..
the flash was recharging much faster now.. can't possibly lose some shots because of the flash not recharging fast enough.. seeing I was the photographer for that event since the rest had lessons, had to do something of course.. was quite a formal event, so changed into school uniform.. other schools were there too.. then encountered another problem, the library didn't have a nice flat ceiling.. those kinds with vents and ducts.. so bounce flash isn't gonna work here.. racked my brains for awhile on how am I gonna overcome this problem.. seen some event photographers having a bounce card attached before, so thought of doing that.. just happened to have that small white envelope that they gave to contain my memory card when I collected the class photos.. and it fits perfectly, tried to get a rubber band from the library counter, but they didn't have any.. so ended up using the strap/string that holds the lens cap.. crude but it works.. the rest was the usual prize presentation procedure, come up, take prize, shake hands, pose, snap.. then some pics of them viewing their prize winning exhibits, reception outside, then some group photos..
had to download the pics immediately to a thumb drive to submit to Lian He Zao Bao or something.. after all that hardwork, Mr Yee was kind enough to save some food from the reception for me..
anyway, sorry for this rather lengthy post.. mostly about the thought processes that go through in my mind during the day.. brought back the cam, but don't know whether it has enough batt for sat's percussion concert.. if it were the 350D I could have charged it as it uses the same batt as my S80..
one more week to the concert..

brought back 2 of the school's cam for the photography course on saturday, but they didn't have any memory cards in them so couldn't save anything.. its like setting up a clarinet already and then you find there's no reed.. sure, you can finger all the fingerings but you can't do what its suppose to do..
had YPSB practice in the evening.. went to the newly renovated foodcourt outside school with Wei Jie to eat.. then met Li En on our way back, she was also going to eat, so we accompanied her.. think them two quite suitable for each other, on the surface they may not agree with each other all the time, but feel there's something deeper.. AMK brought their Prestige Eb and it was LEGEND, as Yan Hao would say it.. the tone quality was just, wow.. the D#/A# and alt B/F# keys were slightly more raised..
had a short sectional before it was scrapped because some resident was not happy.. and it was like only 5+, not like its 12 midnight or something.. funny thing though, they had no complains about the pulgilistic society and their drums.. sight read some pieces as this would be the first time I'm playing the Eb part..
then went to eat at the mac there again.. was already close to 10 by the time we finished, only got home at 11.. salvaged an CF card from my very first digicam, the A20 and tried some shots with the 350D with the 50mm 1.8 lens..

both taken at f1.8, so the depth of field quite shallow.. something very hard to achieve with a compact camera..
had photography course in the morning the next day.. thought I was late, cos I got out of the house quite late, but turns out the instructor wasn't there yet.. waited there for quite some time cos he had stomachache I think.. went through some of last lessons stuff, then went on to the relationship of aperture, shutter speed and ISO.. had to do some calculations given that the correct exposure of a picture is 1/60 f5.6 @ ISO 400.. then had to calculate if your aperture, shutter speed or ISO changes, or any combination of the 3.. its all maths actually, ratios and proportion..
then had an outdoor practical..would try to get some shots that I took.. took the 30D, one thing about using dSLRs, is that you instantly attract attention when you bring out the cam.. of course people walking around wouldn't care less, but feel that people are noticing us while we were there.. first time doing street photography, so not really used to snapping pics of strangers.. of course there were lotsa stuff to take, like the stall owners and their flowers, the people praying.. felt more at ease when snapping some pics of the performance there..
rushed back to school, and guess what, it started raining, so took 22 to the bus stop.. Sarah came to look for me for the PW file I had in my locker, and Gloria came to look for me for their parts list.. passed around the contact list for them to fill up during sectionals.. they were practicing 2nd mvt of Satiric Dances when I got there.. which was one nice big rest for me.. so practiced some other pieces by myself..
Dr Stotter came to conduct a workshop with us.. was anwsering most of his questions since I'm sitting right up infront.. think what he said was very true.. about notes, rythmn, dynamics, balance, blend, tone, intonation, style, phrasing etc.. sighted read Ammerland, asked me what I thought the shape of the phrase was, so I replied cresendo and diminuendo.. there's one line he said which I think its quite meaningful.. "There's no right or wrong in music, the worst choice is not making a choice" there was quite alot of difference when everybody was playing what they thought they should play and playing my version.. at least it sounded more clear if everyone did the same thing, instead of anyhow on their own..
went out with the clarinet section to eat.. got to know some of the sec sch people.. our next practice would be on Wed.. then Wed would be running Friday's timetable, meaning 2 succesive PEs..

damn busy as usual.. so backdating this to tues..
monday was chinese oral.. the passage can die already lar.. at least the conversation part was still ok, though my vocab limited.. then had class phototaking during the CT period on tues.. the usual offical class photograph stuff, take the name slip, get into rows etc.. then took some fun shots with the class after the official ones..

0621!

the guys..
yea.. and thats Joel doing a freeze there.. anyway, just wanna talk more about 0621.. sorta reflections.. well, the class has been great ever since the day it existed.. the ratio of guys to gals quite comfortable, almost the same as 1T24.. our distinctive "landmark" for the class would be our beloved Yan Hao.. can easily spot where's the class in a crowded LT for example.. then there's the various class outings, though its hard to get the entire class out but the turn up is excellent non-the-less..
the class has been generally quite supportive and enthusiastic, but kinda feel let down by them when it comes to the concert.. not just the class, but the school itself.. there's not much of a music culture, maybe except for the piano ensemble playing some morning rhapsodies etc.. when I asked around for AE a few months ago, the "best" reply I got was, "For What?" even sent an request to the whole class and only Jack and Angie turned up.. won't even bother to ask for the YPSB concert, its more worth selling that 4 tickets to my sec sch..
besides that, 0621 has been a great class.. and I'm proud to be in it..

only 2 things occupied me for the past 2 days.. YPSB and Photog.. and they just nice alternate, with sports carnival on friday morning and YPSB practice in the evening, then photography course 12+ hours later and had to rush back again for practice.. anyway, here's what happened..

Friday
was almost late on Friday for the sports carnival.. been waking up quite early and taking the bus to school myself for the previous two days.. the feeling of just taking your time, enjoying the fresh morning air, compared to the rush and bustle, was great.. was suppose to come early and meet up at the darkroom, but only woke up at 6.30.. rushed down to get some batts and took a cab.. only reached at 7.20..
met up with Kian Hwee, Zhi Kai and Wen Zhong, our Head Photographer, VP and Darkroom Manager respectively.. along with Fly and Xinli who came by to help for awhile also, have like 6 people covering the event?? hahaa, lotsa repeats of similar pics.. used my S2 for the beginning of the carnival.. then switched with Kian Hwee for the 30D.. love it mann..
tried some radial zoom effect but didn't have nice timings.. know those pics where a person is like running towards you, then theres like a burst effect creating losta energy and impact.. another thing.. the burst mode, damn fast.. caught a few nice in midair running shots..
of course the major thing I like about the dSLR.. the bokeh, or out-of-focus highlights.. can get very nice out-of-focused background, making the subject really stand out..

not that bad for a first timer.. you notice for the 2nd pic, there's no baton.. think they had not enough batons or something, so had to like tag the other person.. hahaa.. the novelty race was interesting, had to carry a person across, hop in a garbage bag, balance a pingpong ball etc..
there was also a teacher's fun race.. they had to change shirts/costume etc.. quite funny seeing our teachers wearing a sarong running, taking an umbrella with a funny hat.. hahaa.. those shots above were from the 75-300mm lens, the other lens I had at my disposal was the kit lens..
Kian Hwee also took some awesome pictures with my S2 that I loaned him while I had the 30D..

my S2 feels like a toy camera after using the 30D for some time.. if I had the $$ would definately get myself a dSLR and probably my own clarinet.. if I had in the region of $10k to spend, here's what I'll get.. which I think its quite realistic provided I had that amount of cash..
Buffet RC Clarinet
Vandoren 5RV or B45 lyre mouthpiece, Optimum Ligature and 56 rue Lepic reeds
Canon EOS 30D
10-22mm for landscapes
17-55mm f/2.8 IS for general usage
70-300mm IS for sports/action
then if I'm truely insanely rich, would get a Prestige, maybe an Eb Prestige, the 5D and some Ls which I haven't thought of yet.. of course I may have the best instrument/equipment in the world but that doesn't mean I can play any better or take nicer photos.. on the other hand, it would remove the limits allowing me to develop/explore more..
then stayed back with kh to sort through the pics.. got some really nice moments captured, only grabbed a few shots, mostly of my class which I took with the 30D.. the rest can be found the the college website when it's uploaded..

went to PS to eat with the rest of the band people before going back to the school again.. first time getting the whole YPSB together, the sec schs came last sat while in our exams period.. had to clear the band room, which meant shifting the percussion instruments to make room for the 109 people.. damn large the band, have like 5 oboes!! 21 Bb clarinets, 3 Bass and 1 Eb, myself.. suprisingly we sound quite good.. 5 oboes were much more intune than the 2 I used to endure in my sec sch band.. practiced till about 8..

Saturday
went for the basic photography course at SLCC with the rest of the photog members.. met up at Bugis MRT then walked towards midlink plaza.. the studio was quite small, just nice fit all of us inside..
basically just an introduction to photography, the various parts of a cam, modes, lens.. most of the stuff I've already known before, but thats just the basics.. of course still have some stuff I don't know that the instructor knows.. got to play around with a film SLR cam, the EOS 1000, without fim inside of course..
had to go off at about 12.30, then rushed back to school.. made the mistake of taking a bus back instead of the MRT so only reached at 1.45+.. they already had started sectionals.. thought of like doing a short intro with everybody if I came on time but that didn't happen.. Wee Chong had to leave for his alumni band so I took over the bass clar and bassoon since they haven't brought the Eb yet.. theres a small solo with the flute for the Moorside Suite..
went to J8 to eat after band pract ended.. saw one of the AMK clarinettist there, "dao"ed us in the beginning then manage to get her to notice us.. then Yuxi told her that Shi Chie likes her or something.. if you asked me, I think that would have sparked off something..
went opposite to try some light paintings since Regina and Kok Wey brought their instruments..

tried a similar shoot with Chester and Shi Chie.. didn't turn out as well, partly cos lotsa people involved then quite messy..
think I'm suffering from some withdrawal symptoms from the 30D.. somewhat like after trying Wei Jie's Prestige.. if only money grew on trees..

well, the mid-year exams are over.. with Monday's Econs and LC.. did study for Econs, but then I'm not quite sure I can score.. I mean, you also need the skills to answer the question properly and all that, and I don't think I did that.. the class was outside the LT doing some last min revision, then saw Min Jun's econs notes from cj.. was wondering to myself how come I didn't have that, then realised I didn't take econs for the 1st 3 months.. but it didn't feel like I didn't take econs for the 1st 3 months.. hahaa..
then went to Marina Square there to have lunch.. didn't actually want to spend that $50 my parents gave me, been spending lotsa money during the holidays already.. probably in the excess of hundreds.. Ahh! most of the guys went to play lan while the rest went to yuki no yaki to eat buffet lunch.. had the bbq and steamboat thing.. Michelle came to join us later.. the food was quite nice, had bbq chicken, beef.. then Jun An and I tried to cook an omlette, ended up scraping some of the aluminium foil up, but turned out quite ok..

woah, look at amount of food! ok, thats actually some plates from me, Jun An and Hek Ming.. hahaa.. then the uncle from the opposite table gave the gals some of the icecream, its free flow anyway.. quite nice of him, though I didn't eat any.. walked around for awhile after our meal.. was quite full but got hungry again after walking around, hahaa..
took the MRT back to Hougang, met Ray for my shirt and tie which he borrowed for M9.. chatted with him for awhile.. he got quite a high post to say the least, not suppose to leak any info cause they'll be having their post appointment/promotion next mon.. then asked him whats his plan for the band for next year's SYF since he'll be the batch leading the band to 07... and with the current number of the sec 1s, quite worried..

saw a couple of cats while I was walking back.. been some time since I posted pics from my K750i, though I wished the focusing could be better..
would try to help out as much as I can, but my life is getting increasingly more packed.. today had a photog meeting with the exco before band started.. having this photography course every Sat.. mine was the morning shift.. then Mr Brando Tan announced we were having another concert, but it was a combined concert this time.. forming a combined band with amk, xinmin and commonwealth, Young People's Symphonic Band.. and we would be hosting the practices in the college.. very excited about the whole thing, though the concert would be coming up fast and hard.. he said it would be like 100 plus players.. the clarinets would be mostly made up by us, with each part having a leader.. then I'm incharge of myself again, or probably overall if thats the case.. with the addition of the sec sch ppl, the clarinet section probably would be in the region of 20 maybe.. and they are having practices on Sat afternoon, which means I must rush back from the course.. so my Saturdays are fully booked for July..

then had a little celebration for the birthday boy and girls of July.. Gloria bought a small piece of cake for them..
also sight-read a couple of songs, including Songs of Sailor and Sea.. would be playing that for SYF 07.. the first time I heard that song was probably sec 2 I think.. the piece really portrays very vivid imageries.. you can imagine, the ocean, the rising sun painted by the trumpet and french horn fanfare.. then with a climax where you can imagine yourself onboard the ship, with the crew swapping the deck etc by the clarinets playing the main theme with the flutes playing the counter-melody.. all with a driving bass line, like your riding the ocean waves at full speed.. then it all subsides, into the whale song.. the thumb roll on the timpani, the claves, tuba accompanying the euphonium solo really creates that mysterious unknown depths of the sea feel.. then a oboe solo.. Chester did pretty well for that solo, the sound quality is there already.. just that he didn't come in at the correct spot, then didn't taper off etc, which got Mr Tan quite worked up.. the 3rd section of the piece is sorta a repeat of the 1st.. starts off with a french horn fanfare, then the whole band comes in with impact.. the woodwinds have that triplets part from the 1st section and the brass inject a brassy flavour.. ok, that sounded cheesy.. then ends with a climax with the running notes..
not that bad for our first time looking at the score.. though it really needs lotsa work, esp from the woodwinds with the fast part.. glad that NY band is getting somewhere, from the looks of things, I think a Gold is within out reach..
anyway, Friday's our sports carnival.. would be covering the event, either I'll be using my S2 which is almost 2nd nature to me or the school's dSLR which I only handled a few times..

was quite bored during this 5 day break before our final paper, econs.. so asked some people out quite last min for the past 2 days, namely Gloria and Desmond..

Friday
spent the whole day at home on Thursday, so felt like going out on Friday.. asked Gloria and she agreed.. was quite last minute though.. dropped off 2 panos to be printed since I was in Toa Payoh.. went to the library there and guess who I met there.. noticed a gal in cj blue sorting through some books seem quite familar.. was Yvonne, she didn't noticed us there until I went to say hi.. what a coincidence.. she went off to do other stuff while me and Gloria went upstairs..
the 3rd level was much much colder lar.. at least there were lesser people there.. brought the econs book, so took it out.. probably the 2nd time in my JC life that I went out with a friend to study.. went out with Jun An on Mon to study Chem, and to Toa Payoh also.. didn't actually study that time at Bishan CC with Simon, Ji Bin and Angie, so that didn't count.. hahaaa..
but found myself answering my own questions half of the time.. hahaa.. rediscovered my passion for knowledge while there, think the way I study is just to help people out, reinforcing my knowledge.. but that only applies for the subjects I'm good at.. hahaa.. need help for Chinese though..
then went to the neighbouring 40-story HDB blocks to view the sunset..

Vertigo anyone??
a dog with its owner rode the lift up with us.. Gloria looked quite uneasy with it so close.. the lift was zippy but there was not much open space on the common corridoor on the 40th floor.. so didn't really get a good view.. the sun was still fairly high up in the sky so went to the neighbouring block.. though it was only 30 stories, there was a much better view..
the top floor had lotsa plants blocking the view, so we went down a floor.. then suddenly got a shock by this dog barking.. think Gloria was pretty shook up too.. anyway, sorta ran down to the 28th after that..

think I've been hooked on panos since I got that disposible pano cam.. just the extensive view by a pano fasinates me.. there was quite a nice view this high up, of course the view from inside the units would be even better.. nothing much, just stood there watching the sun go down.. the sun was nice and red, quite a typical blue-sky day sunset.. departed on our own ways after that..

Saturday
actually wanted to go for the Dragonboast Festival to have a looksee.. Jack informed the class about the event but he couldn't go himself, so thought maybe some others were going.. guess not, Jun An called me in the morning to ask whether I was going.. was still half asleep when I recieved his call.. anyway, since nobody is going, except for Hek Ming himself as he's the captain afterall, so didn't go.. other than other schools/organisations rowing, don't think its much different from the fun race we had.. maybe more competitive, but more or less the same stuff..
slept till quite late, wanted to go watch Superman Returns with my family but my bro went out to watch it with his friends and my mom was tired.. also needed to collect the photos I sent yesterday..
met up with Desmond at the interchange.. shared with me some of his recent experiences in poly while on the bus.. reached Toa Payoh and it was already 7 plus.. collected the 2 panos of the vertical sunset one and the Hougang sunrise one.. not that bad except for that minor stitching error on my part.. probably gonna get some mounting board and display on my wall..
then went to play pool at AMK.. lost to Desmond only because I pocketted both the 8-ball and the cue ball on my last shot.. and that happened twice.. also got some nice jump balls but didn't pocket any ball.. switched to 9-ball after the first half hour.. think 9-ball is more of my cup of tea.. got quite a number of shots that forced Desmond to foul.. hahaa.. then won my fastest game of pool.. only the 1 ball and 9-ball went in and it was probably less than 5 mins..
