today was refreshing to say the least.. woke up early to get to Accent to buy some reeds.. met up with Hafiz, who somehow have known me for some time and I've yet to know him.. he's been to my concerts starting from M8.. most of the times its the opposite, didn't expect it happening to me.. hahaa..
planned to take 161 to woodlands, but as I walked down to the bus stop.. spotted a bus already arriving, but couldn't see the number.. got a gut feeling that's its 161, could be 72 cos its one of the newer bus.. so just didn't run after it.. sure enough it was 161 and I had just missed it.. so "lucky"..
took 72 to yck and took the mrt instead.. Hafiz caught the train at woodlands and we headed to bukit batok.. chatted on the way there.. took 61, which stops just outside the store..

bought a box of 3.5 56 rue Lepic reeds.. also got a 3 and 3.5+ to let the others try out.. had a similar post about more than a year back I think.. Hafiz lent me some of his scores to use as a background for that shot.. looks more presentable now compared to that shot I did last time..
took 157 back to toa payoh to have a quick lunch at BK.. then 105 back to school..
was meeting my PW group for our OP.. brought my laptop along, rehearsed and refined our parts.. Bao Bao didn't come as usual.. then went to the band room, the usual people were there.. Annie, Yong De, Kok..
Jin Hao went to Joel's house to get some stuff first, then Sarah went to meet them at Seragoon first.. were going to Michelle's house.. took 70 from central and alighted at the bus stop from memory.. the sky was turning dark by the time I alighted.. called her to ask her where her house was.. told me that it was raining already.. and sure enough, within 10 seconds it started to pour.. was in the open and only had a faint idea where it was.. sure am "lucky" today.. what's with me and terrace houses and rain.. that's one disadvantage of private housing, there's no shelther!
so just tried to protect my bag, which contains both my laptop and camera, as much as possible.. tried to run initially, but no point running if you don't have an idea where you're running to.. turns out it was at the very end of the lane.. ok.. got abit soaked.. luckily my laptop and cam were safe.. quite refreshing to be caught in the rain actually, other that the uncomfortable feeling when you're wet..
so just sat on the floor to dry off as much as I can.. the gals were making pancake in the kitchen.. didn't really do much there.. was at the piano most of the time.. somehow, the sound of the piano reminded me of lotsa distant memories.. think it was of cny when I was young.. my relatives also live in terrace housing, then during that year it rained somewhat like what happened just now.. then remembered just getting bored and going to the piano to tinker with it.. the piano they had also wasn't that perfect either.. like some notes not really in tune, some keys quite stiff etc..
just played some melodies from memory.. sight read some scores lying on top.. taught Sarah the rest of Neko Funjyatta since she was playing it on the piano.. for those who don't know, its that piece that involves mainly the black keys.. taught her some basic chords as well..
we only left about 7.. they were going to graceheaven, so just followed them since I'll be passing by on my way home.. we missed the bus by a few secs (yet again), so they decided to walk there.. decided that it was enough adventure for one day, waited for the next bus and got home..

Thursday got back our results slip.. had a talk in the hall first.. Congrats to PC and Spidy for getting onto the honor roll.. Mr Kwek also showed us the analysis of the results.. he skipped a page showing all the classes.. thought I saw our class at the top of the list, wonder its that good or bad..
got BCCDEE.. hiaz.. really gotta brush up on Econs and Chinese.. B for physics was quite alright.. hiaz, average results.. well, thats something I'm afraid of, mediocrity.. being OK at something just doesn't cut it for me.. doing just whats required of you isn't enough.. just wanna feel special sometimes.. well, think its this fear of just being average provides the driving force in my life.. also can explain why I can be attention seeking at times.. just wanna say sorry, for the times I may have hurt anybody's feelings in the process..
anyway, Rommel organised a small gathering for 1T24 on friday.. Hek Ming also organising a K-Box session and it slightly overlaps.. went to Toa Payoh to find the class to have lunch first.. KFC again, just had it yesterday.. need to watch my diet and excercise already.. Angie and Michelle were queueing at the counter so went to suprise them.. Angie was quite suprised that I suddenly turned up behind them, while Michelle was calm.. sometimes I think she's too calm for her own good..
didn't join them for K-Box, wanna save up on money during this "holidays".. so had 3 hours with nothing to do till 5pm.. took 105 to town, went to Borders, browsed through some books and CDs.. walked till Heeren to maybe pay a visit to Jill if she was working.. turns out she was taking a nap at that time.. nice.. walked around abit more, eventually it was 4+.. found a seat outside the MRT and wasted the hour away..

did a couple of shots while waiting.. kinda portrays what I was feeling at that moment in time.. just waiting there.. for someone, while the rest of the world rushes by..
went into the station to see if anybody has arrived yet.. Ian found me first, so we chatted while waiting.. William, Rommel, Samuel, Eric and Linda came sometime after.. went to Lido to see what movie were there only to decide not to watch a movie.. hahaa.. so went to Food Republic to eat.. Carmen, Serene, Wei Xue, Jason came to join us sometime after.. Jocelyn popped by for awhile with her bf..
then went to play pool next.. had lotsa lucky shots.. sometimes too "lucky".. was winning Jason by 6 balls (he only pocketted one) and was hitting the 8-ball.. was a very direct shot, and somehow, it didn't go in.. instead it went to the pocket at the far end of the table.. nice..

took a group shot together before we left.. grateful that I've had such wonderful classes so far.. Pri Sch was 6G, we still go back to help out time to time.. Sec Sch was 4E1, lotsa fun even though there's some disharmony amongst certain people.. then it was 1T24, really treasured the time we had together as a class.. and of course now, 0621.. really couldn't ask for more..

quite a short week actually.. tues was Hari Raya, so no school and friday's the off-in-leiu for Deepavali plus it the last offical week of school, everyone's in a holiday kinda mood already..
monday had the games day organised by the sc.. quite a number of people conveniently didn't attend the lectures in the morning, then NY102 had their rehearsal after the lectures.. had to rush off midway though to meet Mr Kooi.. was doing the stitching for the virtual tour with Zhi Kai.. had to used Mr Neo's com cause it has the licensed software on it, but only managed to do the floor part before we had to go out of the staffroom.. some commotion about our presence and the fact that promo results aren't out yet..
haven't eaten all day so went to have my lunch at the canteen first.. Li En was there with some of her classmates.. went to meet Amelia and Ming Shi who were covering for today.. their first time so helped them out abit.. started to rain slightly 15 minutes after it started so they called everyone back first.. waited for the rain to clear which it did then started again..
got a couple of "the right moment at the right time" shots..

Tuesday went to Jin Hao's house to do our OP.. the other groups were there also.. woke up late, and when I reached the bus stop, it rained.. didn't bring an umbrella and I've got my laptop with me so can't possibly run through the rain or anything.. Jin Hao's mum was kind enough to come fetch me though.. did till about 6+ then we left..
since I've got my laptop with me, took the bus instead of the train to meet with the rest of my family.. did the OP notes onboard 153, quite a long journey, from Serangoon to Bt Merah.. then 16 to Great World..
Wenesday was OP rehearsal 2.. brought along my S2, so helped the groups record down their presentations.. the presentations were 30min+, so just nice fills the 2GB card.. even though the cam's quite light compared to dSLRs, it isn't comfortble holding your hands in a fixed position for a long time.. should have brought along my tripod..

not much to blog about these past few days... Monday was results day.. spent the afternoon checking papers.. results only average at most.. can confidently say that I passed all my subjects, except for chinese which I don't have much confindence in.. gotta really brush up.. suprisingly got highest in the class for physics.. thought Ping Chong would be highest or something, but still can't compare to his insane 92/100 for Maths! the maths paper wasn't difficult, but then didn't really score..
then Tuesday was the SGC talk.. what to write and what to include in the cert etc.. was in the band room cleaning out my instrument.. the pad for the D#/A# key came off a few times during practice, so decided to fix it.. then tried to play, can't play the lower half notes.. turns out I didn't put the pad properly back, then had a leak.. adjusted abit and it was fine.. also saw a glimpse of our SYF piece.. probably playing Songs of Sailor and Sea for the overseas trip..
got to the hall only to find Angie there.. the rest of the class went to J8 to eat I think, and they weren't here yet.. there was an obvious gap between 20 and 22, with only 2 of us occupying the entire row.. then they all came at one go, hoping no one would notice.. hahaa.. talked about contract players for the asthetic groups for next year's SYF.. we really need more flautist and a tenor saxophonist.. other than that the balance quite fine, more percussion would also be nice.. for the SGC probably would include SYPA, the Virtual Tour, SYF..
Friday was the OP rehearsal.. went to Jin Hao's house the previous day to do the OP.. did the intro video to our project.. think the layout also need to change, abit too plain.. lotsa learning points for everyone.. NY 100 was presenting in the middle so we had some time to do some last minute adjustments.. there was an announcement for all the STs to go for a meeting halfway through the last group's presentation.. quite disappointing for them, having to wait till the rest had finished, then their presentation was reluctant to load and not gaining any feedback.. probably would do another rehearsal in the following week I guess..
then sight-read Grandfather Clock Variations during practice.. starts off with the original melody with the clarinets with euphonium.. ya, its the same tune from My Grandfather's Clock you used to hear when you were young.. then the variations, clarinets had a fair bit of running notes.. like how it ends though, climaxes to a certain point then suddenly cuts.. and the ending of the original melody is heard by the Oboe, then goes into a vivace part with the clarinets doing a run at the end.. quite typical japanese type of ending.. needs quite abit of work though..

quite a number of JCs having their open house on Sat.. CJ was also having their open house so decidede to pay some of my former classmates a visit..woke up only about 12 plus, so only reached slightly before 2.. wasn't much people there since it's ending soon.. the first person I met was Sean, he was part of the welcoming party.. gave me a firm handshake and welcomed me.. next was Andrea, passed her a small something since her birthday was 4 days ago.. then walked another few steps and saw Rommel.. he's been wanting to meet up with me to have a chat since we haven't seen each other in long time..
brought me over to meet Linda, Qiuwen and Jocelyn.. had a short chat with them, asked me how's Jason in NY now, said he's still the same.. was chatting halfway when somebody grabbed me from behind, it was Clement in his canoe attire.. think he got more muscular since the last time I saw him.. went up to the quadrangle to see the performance.. met Charmaine there also.. some dance thing going on, then it was the mass dance.. was the same dance from O1.. spotted Yvonne and Janice dancing, but don't think they saw me.. was practically standing infront of Janice and she still didn't notice..
went to say hi to Yvonne after it ended, also helped Angie to say hi on behalf.. didn't know they were from the same class till Angie posted a pic of her class, then noticed a familar face.. brought me to meet Cliff who's still in tennis.. went to say hi to Carmen as I walked pass the ODAC booth.. Guitar Ensemble was setting up next, went to meet Joachim before they started.. Alfred was busy helping out with the mics, so didn't want to bother him.. went to the PAC to watch the choir's performance.. wished NY had something similar, LT4 not really suit for proper concerts.. Andrea had a solo in the first piece, very nice.. spotted Janis also, she was one of the "short people" for their 2nd piece "short people".. quite a catchy tune, but kinda discriminates short people.. overall quite a fun piece..
just as I was about to go off, spotted Joel Koh.. sat with him to go though the talk.. anyway, if you're reading this, all the best for your "O"s.. met Eric at the bus stop, then found a direct bus to woodlands, 966.. probably met almost all the people I know who's in CJ during that short visit..
took 966 to woodlands.. Innova's quite nice.. like the tent like architecture leading to the foyer.. Lian Jie was ushering so he couldn't move around..

'
Keck was touring 2 gals around so just joined them.. the school looks quite big.. then met Addison next.. displayed some of his hostile friendliness to me.. took me around also.. bragged about how great his school his, how nice the facilities are etc.. keep quiet throughout, then replied him with one line when he commented how near NY is to his house.. "you can get in in the first place meh?"

been quite busy for Open House.. so glad thats its over, thanks everyone for making it a sucess!
had our special post promos timetable from wed, which consist only of PW and Chinese.. Thurs had the Rangoli competition organised by the ICS, Kian Hwee, Hui Yen and Melissa were covering it.. for those who don't know what Rangoli is, its basically coloured rice art.. the class was doing their design while I had to rush off to collect some photos..
was meeting Lam to collect the photos I troubled him to print.. Thanks Lam! got 3 consecutive calls once I stepped into Serangoon MRT.. First Tricia called to ask me where was I, the class wanted to take a pic with their design, told her to ask any one of the photographers there.. Regina called next within 10 secs of hanging up, asked me about the photos which I was suppose to print, told her I was going to collect them now... then finally, less than 10 secs later Lam called to ask me where was I.. wah
anyway, met Lam at Little India, he was going to Sim Lim to buy something I think.. rushed back to school and passed the photos to Regina.. then went to meet up with the rest of photog to do up the posters for tomorrow..

anyway, just provided the background picture and Zhi Kai did the rest.. oh yea, in case you are wondering, other than the border effect the background picture is not photoshopped at all..

the original pic..
went to the darkroom to cut the cardboard backings for the poster.. the gals went to get the poster stamped by the SC first.. took out the velcro backing for the exhibition pics and added on blu-tack.. initially thought the display board was those furry kinds but turns out its not..

anyway, woke up early on Friday.. well, not exactly early, but my usual waking up time for school.. but since we only have to be in school by 9, its considered early.. baked some cookies that I've wanted to bake but didn't find the time to do it.. baked about 40 I think... tried a different route to school, took 147 from the interchange to serangoon central.. met JJ at the interchange there, he was taking 153 to school.. the brand new wheel-chair accessible 147.. only a few people boarded the bus so the whole 2nd deck was to me.. hahaa.. the interior smells like the brand new car smell, the 2nd deck also has more headroom.. good news for taller people I guess..
went to the mac at central to have my breakfast.. strolled to school and arrived close to 8.. one of the few times coming to school so relaxed.. had PW tutorial at 9, went to the com lab to finish our WR.. so 2 hours just passed in a snap.. went to the band room for the run through of the day's programme.. we were performing after CO which was about 2.15..
went to help set up the photog booth during the break we had.. had 11 photos on exhibit, 5 from Xin Li, 3 from Zhi Kai and 3 from me.. Forged Elemental and Pulse of the Night which I've entered for SYPA and one taken during Racial Harmony.. we cracked our heads just to think of a title, came up with lotsa combinations and crappy titles, but eventually settled with Clique/Click! think FE attracted the most views out of my 3, the most common response I heard was "wah!/hey!/huh? what is that?" some of my tutors also came to comment..
soon it was 2 and we were waiting for our turn to perform.. played Shrek Dance Party and Instant Concert.. think it was only an average performance, but we did had lotsa fun playing the pieces.. the brass quintet did their piece next, arranged by Leon.. Annie didn't seem that confident playing..
then helped to cover the rest of the open house once we finished..

tried out the fisheye lens for event coverage.. found Kai Wen's game's station.. some sort of scrabble game.. wanted to have the bottom up kinda shot, but didn't have a chance.. the photographer from the same company that did our class photos also came.. had some really nice shots, probably would appear in the school annual or something..
the response for the photography competition was lukewarm.. only about 30+ people signed up.. but we had to give away the prizes anyway..
before you know it, its already 5pm.. went back to the bandroom only to find the band sitting though one of Mr Neo's "lectures".. think what he said was quite true.. we depend too much on hoping to get good J1s next year through the open house in hope of getting something good for SYF.. have to have a strong central core of J2s next year when the J1s come in, think that was what I felt when I first stepped into cj band..

went back to school on monday to prepare for the exhibition.. Melissa came to help us to cut the mounting boards.. also did some bounce cards for the flashes.. the plastic we used quite translucent, gives a nice glow when you turn it around..
anyway, went to KT Photo to print the exhibition photos.. heard its much cheaper to print large sizes there.. took the MRT to Chinatown.. walked around quite abit before finally finding the shop.. actually was 50+, then told them I'm from CS, then save about $20.. not bad.. then walked around Chinatown abit..

haven't been to Chinatown much though.. felt quite "touristy" going around taking pictures.. quite alot of interesting stuffs going on there.. lots of shops selling all kinds of trinkets.. quite interesting..
then got back home to try out the bounce card we made.. basically a white piece of plastic attatched to the flash to soften the light.. wanted to find some stray cats to shoot but couldn't find any at around my block.. walked around for some time without much success, so called Lam down to have a chat since I'm in his area already.. while waiting for him, noticed a stray cat lying on the table, as if its waiting for me..
quite friendly.. allowed me to get close to it, then patted it on the head.. seemed to like it alot.. purred softly as I scratched it under the neck..

nice, been going back to school 5 days out of this 6 day break.. need to prepare for the open house which is only next week.. thurs met up to discuss about the open house, need to prepare the entry forms for the competition.. then friday came back to school with Zhi Kai to select some pics for the exhibition.. met Mr Neo in the library and discussed about the virtual tour also, showed him some of the pics we were planning to print out for the exhibition.. think he was quite impressed by the charcoal pic, don't think you can tell its a piece of charcoal unless I tell you it is..
then we went to the darkroom to try out the 2 new lenses..

although its not a true macro lens, the 28-75 can focus quite close.. love the nicely blurred background also.. went to have dinner first, then bought some cellophone paper to act as colour filters.. then while cutting the roll, think I applied too much force and the scissors broke.. then got a cut on my thumb..
did the light painting with my handphone's light.. wrapped a piece of cellophone paper to make the colour.. my hp has 2 bulbs so used 2 pieces, one red and one blue.. then in the end turn out slightly purple although you can see 2 seperate trails if you look up close..

NYPS
tried about 10 times to get this shot.. most were either writing out of the frame already or the letters not evenly spaced out.. can see the effect of the haze where the lamp post is.. Zhi Kai also did one for his class..

then also did a few fun shots.. looks like some graffiti on the wall doesn't it..
then today resumed practice.. only have 1 week to prepare for open house, so playing 2 quite easy and instantly recognisable pieces.. Shrek Dance Party (brings back lotsa memories) and Instant Concert.. Shrek Dance Party contains lotsa hits like Y.M.C.A, Staying Alive, Who Let The Dogs Out, abit disappointed that the band was quite reluctant to do the "woof" part for who let the dogs out.. then Instant Concert's more of all the classical hits.. lotsa pieces all mixed in and shaken.. too many to list out, even though you're not really into band music, you'll sure to recognise alot of excerpts from various pieces..
though these 2 pieces would be crowd pleasers, don't think I'll be very impressed if I were the audience.. would be expecting something more technical pieces from a JC band.. anyway, went to Pizza Hut to eat after practice ended.. the cheesy bites pizza damn nice, couldn't have enough of it though.. went of first to meet some of my classmate, met Joel at the MRT, he was meeting his church friend or something..
met Joel, Michelle and Ji Bin at Bugis.. waited there for some time for the rest.. they were going to Bras Basah to buy guitars, going there to get some stuff for the exhibition anyway.. went to Art Friend to get mounting boards and velcro.. also got some white plastic sheets to make some bounce cards.. took 133 back and deposited the stuff in the darkroom..

talking about the haze.. its back.. overheard 2 guys on the bus..
A: Wah, the haze damn bad leh..
B: Ya lar, my friend wanted to go out and smoke, then came back in without lighting his cigarette.. says he smoked enough already..
any worse think they'll close schools.. and just when promos are over! hope some north winds come and blow the smoke back to them..

haven't been blogging for awhile.. promos ended on Wed with Physics paper 2, which was er, not easy to say the least.. anyway the class, or rather 1/3 of the class were planning to go to Pulau Ubin to cycle on Thurs.. had photog meeting so could only join them in the later part of the day..
woke up only at 11.45 and suppose to have the meeting at 10.. so rushed to school, luckily only 10mins late.. discussed about the open house with the teachers.. having a digital photography competition which we have to organise..
Mr Neo also bought some new lenses.. 17-50, 28-75 and a 90 macro which has yet to come.. all constant 2.8 apertures and the quality much much better than the kit lens we used to use.. can get very lovely blurred backgrounds..
had a set of clothing in my locker from the day before.. thought they were going out after the papers but didn't so kept them there.. didn't have time to bath before coming out of the house so made use of the showers.. took the entire full trip of 109, terminal to terminal.. haven't been to Pulau Ubin before but had some idea of how to get there.. been to changi village area quite a number of times so knew where the ferry terminal was.. think they just renovated the terminal, quite new..

realised that my S80 had no batts inside it when I tried to take some pics.. left the batt in the charger and didn't take it out.. the batts on my S2 also died.. luckily I kept spare batts for both cams in my bag.. if not so wasted..
the bumboat ride there was, er bumpy.. think the vibrations were still ringing in my head even when I got off the boat.. there were quite a number of people on board.. got a couple of people asked to help them take some pics for them, think its because they see me carrying a tripod and all that.. a caucasian father and son pair with a high-tech PDA-cameraphone and a chinese couple with a film camera..

wanted to go to Ubin since long ago, but didn't have a chance.. would be quite dangerous if I went alone, probably could get lost.. first thing I noticed was the dramatic contrast between Ubin and mainland Singapore.. the rustic, laid back feeling just oozes everywhere..
lotsa small crabs on the beach near the jetty.. the male one has a oversized right claw, which is quite prominent.. you won't notice the females unless they move cos its really camouflaged with the sand.. quite a number of dogs and cats roaming around too..
the rest came not long after.. rented a bike and followed them..

Michelle and Jibin were leading the way.. quite different from the usual time we see her in school, most of the time she's quiet and reserved.. cycled for quite awhile.. quite thrilling, like some expedition to the unknown..
we were cycling towards Chek Jawa when we encountered some steep slopes.. I went first, by CoE, GPE + KE at top = GPE + KE at bottom, (ya I know, physics) and some KE it was.. but it wasn't enough to make it up a slightly higher slope, so got down and pushed.. Angie, Michelle and Ji Bin came not longer after I came down from my bike.. we were half-way up the slope when we noticed the rest were not following behind us.. so stopped our bikes there.. Angie and Michelle went back to see what's going on.. so left me and Ji Bin behind with the bikes.. so while waiting for them, we fed dunno how many mosquitoes and enjoyed the aromatic smoke from the vehicles going pass us..
called them to check on them, heard Tricia's voice in the background and I knew something bad had happened.. just don't like the feeling of not knowing whats going on and doing nothing about it.. went back to see what was going on when Angie and Michelle returned.. turns out there was a small mishap, Yuan Ting fell down and had some scratches.. walked back to where we started..

went to catch the sunset first before joining back.. they were having some coconuts, the eight of them just nice fill up the table, leaving little space for me.. just feel neglected sometimes, the warm welcoming feeling starts to fade after awhile.. its like them in their own world and me just overlapping.. think the same can be said for the rest of my friends.. if you could draw a Venn diagram of my friends you'll probably see lotsa big circles and me, the overlapping portion of these circles..

tried the silky water effect with a long exposure.. can't really get the slow shutter speed that I wanted even though its at lowest ISO and smallest aperture..
got back to mainland Singapore, then the group spilt into 2.. one group following Yuan Ting to see a doc and the other going to eat.. went to meet up with Sarah and Sok Hua at Marina Bay, they've been waiting for 2 hours there already? went to glutton's bay at Esplanade to eat.. more of supper than dinner already..
