haven't been blogging much lately, even though I've lotsa things I wanna blog about.. got back our Block test results.. all except GP, which I'm quite worried I won't do well.. quite pleased with my results so far, my lowest grade's a C for Maths, the rest Bs.. :D but still haven't gotta hold of any As so far..
anyway, Sat woke up early to help the class cover for the games day they organised for the gracehaven kids.. had breakfast at Hougang Point first with my parents before they drove me there.. could have walked, but can't run on an empty stomach.. reached there slightly before 9, but had to wait for the sercurity guard to come back from his toilet break.. hahaa..
Jun An and Aaron incharge of the dressing up game..think they had a hard time controlling the kids who were constantly running about and some refusing to listen to instructions.. some bickering also, kinda reminded me of how it was being a kid.. the "teacher, he bully me.." phase.. primary sch sure did hold lotsa fond memories for me..
went for band practice after that.. took 73 back to sch, was quite early before band starts so when to eat with some of the ppl who were already there.. namely, Liying, Jun Hao, Yuxi.. then had band pract in LT4 till 6plus..
Monday was a
half-day off for the school cos of the good A level results.. we were released at 12, which cuts my 2nd longest day down by alot.. but had a ex-co meeting to discuss about the various events coming up and some issues in band.. the longest meeting we ever had, met at 1 till 5.30.. so 4 hours if you exclude the 30 min break we had.. so, didn't really enjoy any benefits of the half-day, though we did sort out lotsa issues and problems at hand..
Tuesday, nothing much special happened in sch.. spent the whole night with Annie online doing the band website.. (ok, that sounds abit weird..) had to process the pics for the website and upload them.. ought to get a duo-core processor com for my photo editing.. takes quite some time now.. uploaded quite a number of videos too.. all these you can find on the website which is up already..
http://www.nanyangjc.org/~band/
though, some parts still under construction.. go click on the gallery subsection..
then today had the first practice for the 2nd intakers.. quite a large number I should say, total about 70 ppl in the band including us J2s.. had some sectionals first, then full band.. with the addition of the new J1s we didn't sound as good.. Mr Tan had to ask just the J2s to play certain parts to show the J1s how it should sound like.. just know that we are very much capable of obtaining that
Gold, still have some more work to do with the new J1s.. and with
44 days left, its a race against time..
on a lighter note..
Zhi Xiong playing his newly conjured instrument..
was keeping my Alto, when he took out the bell to play with it.. hahaa, it does look quite like it, the cloth's dark in colour.. actually wanted to say more about myself when Kok Wey was introducing the Ex-co members, other than my photos etc.. had this sentence in mind.. "Hi, I'm Jeremy, an Eb player who defected to an octave below.." but didn't..

I guess its due for an update since its after the block tests already.. Mon was GP and Maths, Tues Chem and Econs, and Wed Physics.. quite confident in doing well for Econs, probably not an A but much better than I did before..
went to Vivocity with the rest of the class after Wed's last paper Physics.. pretty much the whole class except Angie and Tiat Ming went.. we were planning to go to Sentosa after that but it rained..anyway, celebrated the March babies' birthdays on the rooftop of Vivo.. the cake was ok, though coffee cake isn't one of my favorites..

after that went to play pool with Ping Chong and Joel.. haven't played in quite awhile so abit rusty already.. played till close to 5 where Joel had to leave.. Ping Chong and I went to look for the rest of the class but found out that they were at Paradiz Centre K-Box.. Ping Chong wanted to join them but I didn't.. walked around Vivo pondering on what to do now, ended up taking 166 back to AMK.. went to play more pool, gotten a hang of how to do the screw back and long pots.. came back home around 9plus..
Spent the whole of Thurs at home, quite bored.. so went early on Friday at around 1.30 where we were suppose to only come at 5.30.. practiced my parts for awhile.. then took out some scores to sight read.. the Alto part for Noah's Ark quite interesting, esp the counter-melody in the March of the Animals.. the bass line at the Storm also quite interesting, first time seeing the low Eb or D# written in a score.. also had quite some melody parts.. been trying to refine the high register sound since getting the Prestige..
some instrumental problems came about while I was there.. Xue Li's Bassoon had something wrong, the key not pressing as normal.. asked me for the key oil, but didn't fix it.. went to take a look at it, then found out what the problem was.. the spring had came off the post, just had to place it back and it was fine.. then a more serious problem cropped up.. Daryl had somehow broke off the trigger of Selena's trombone.. but it was the double trigger bass trombone so it still playable its harder to reach the lower notes..
then Kok, Regina and Leon talked to us regarding attitude and all that.. more of psyching for SYF..

early in the wee hours of the morning now.. find it much more peaceful and tranquil, with nobody awake or other distractions.. my productive hours so to say.. didn't really study as hard as I wanted to during the holidays.. went back to school almost everyday of the week, except tues.. wed went to collect the lenses first, then studied with some of my band mates in the canteen..
thursday covered for the J1 Level Camp together with Zhi Kai and Xin Li.. they had much more physical activities compared to our's a year back..
the sniper..they had The Conquest in the field.. the rules of the game was quite chiem, had defense force, attack force, bridging force, guerilla force,
sniper force.. the field was also divided into different sections, minefield, swamp, quicksand.. which was just some ropes and chairs, ahhaa.. basically, a very elaborate game of water-bombs..

had some very nice shots like the one above.. at the moment of impact, but could freeze the water perfectly still though.. 1/800th of a sec still not enough.. the other event at the hall wasn't very exciting though..
stayed back to sort out the pics cos they wanted to show it in a slideshow at the end of the camp.. Wee Chong came to ask me if I wanted
pizza, cos they were ordering.. had my 3 slices of pizza, then joined them in the room where they were studying..
it started with playing tic-tac-toe on the board, then we moved on to hangman, then pictionary..
the fiasco on the board.. Yuxi's stick figures trying to illustrate out the word.. based on a real life incident involving Wee Chong.. don't think you'll understand unless you were there at SCH also.. hahaa.. anyway, click on it for a larger version..

went to the IT Show on Sun with my Dad.. bought a new printer, Canon's
Pixma iP5200.. actually wanted to get the 6600, essentially the same specs, just that its a 6-ink printer.. quite reasonable, $169.. now I can print on CDs directly instead of the troublesome label method.. would be printing my lecture notes at home more frequently now.. cos my prev printer smudges when I highlight the text, so been going to the com lab to print most of my notes..
Mon was suppose to come sch early to collect our tutorials, but woke up late.. went to sch anyway to study, since some of my classmates staying to study also.. did some Maths and read some of the GP essays in the book we just got.. its a compliation from rj, and it has some seriously good stuff in it.. the KI essays are just mind-boogling, lotsa philosophical issues.. striving to be able to write in that standard..
then did some IR pics.. haven't touched my S2 for quite along time..

not much special going on throughout the week.. had
CCA Bazaar 2 on wed, the first day where the new J1s come in.. though I think its pretty rush to have CCA Bazaar on the first day, but its better than "academic orientation" as in our batch's case..
came earlier as usual on a wed morning.. we were suppose to bring our band t-shirt, but Huai Yu didn't so lent her mine.. a M is better than the extra XL in the band room.. and even so M still looks abit big on her.. there wasn't assembly to give us time to prepare for the CCA Bazaar.. helped out with photog first, moved the boards and some equipment..
NYJCSB in action..
performed in LT4 to a rather small audience.. played Sinfonia then the woodwind ensemble played Yellow Mountains.. quite a soothing piece that really showcases the woodwind section.. Li En apparently hurt her fingers, so she was watching us perform together with some of her juniors.. gave out some flyers and sweet after we performed.. only saw 1 clarinettist on the list though..
Friday had Chem SPA.. was quite ok, but think I may have missed out on some observations though.. BL gave us a lecture on our attitude and all that after the practical was over, he had to hand up our tutorial by today.. stayed back to complete it together.. quite satisfying even though it required some work..
then had some auditions in the band room.. quite a number outside waiting.. BT brought back the Alto Clar from repair.. the leaks have been fixed and the 2 necks re-corked.. missed how the low notes of the Alto sounded like.. but one thing about the instru that annoys me still is how little of the lower little right pinky keys stick out.. the RH F#/C# and E/B keys if you know what I'm talking about.. even the same keys on the Eb are easier to press.. but love the convenience LH extra Ab/Eb key brings.. still gotta practice more though..
Sat had band pract in the afternoon.. then went to the IT show with Hafiz.. he wanted to get a Memory Stick for his PSP.. band pract only ended at 6+ and by the time all the announcements were done was 6.30 already.. packed my stuff and got to Bishan MRT.. he had been waiting from 6.10 and seen 12 trains go by from what he told me.. the IT show was crowded as usual.. and it bringing along my Alto and Bb didn't help.. at least the Alto's case could carry on my back, but it was unwieldy.. had lotsa people bumping into me as we walked around.. bought a pack of DVD-Rs there since it was so cheap.. $15 for a 25-pack..
went over to Marina Square, bought a charbroiled bbq chicken from Carl's Jr.. then went over to Esplanade to find a space to eat.. Hafiz took out the Alto to have a look at it, but we ended up setting up both instruments and playing on it.. hahaa, though we didn't dare to play loud, lotsa ppl around..
me on the clarinet..Labels: band

in the com lab now.. updating this post since I've some time before PE..
Friday was the release of the A Level results.. half day for the school, so my 5pm day ended at 1.30pm instead.. saw some of our seniors coming back, Hui Shan, Felicia.. they got pretty good results.. we were shown a video clip from Hero, quite a cool fighting scene.. they fought then stopped and meditated how they would fight.. then the main character killed the guy one in one move.. the analogy they gave I found it abit lame tough..
then the statistics of the results.. had a tremedous improvement over the previous year.. prob one of the best in the history of NYJC I've heard.. which kinda puts lotsa stress on our current batch to perform just as well.. sat though the entire cert presentation, Kian Hwee was covering.. then played with Wei Hao's new phone for awhile..
the lousy pic I took..then it was our turn to get our Chinese results.. went to 4-44 where Ms Shahida distributed the results slips.. well, got what I expected, an E.. am just happy I passed, though it isn't a nice grade for my last time Chinese exam..
learnt how to play the Oboe on thurs, with alittle help from Liying.. so much much resistance than the clarinet.. but not bad for my first time.. was able to play a score also.. hahaa..
Friday help out with Melissa and Sarah for Bai Yun Gang.. still haven't processed the film yet though.. asked them to shoot in RAW cos the lighting does change quite alot, thing like lighting easier to edit also.. more work for me to process though, but worth the trouble.. got home pretty late..
then Sat was suppose to meet in school at 8.30, and I woke up at 8.30.. zzz, then still haven't processed the RAW files.. processed a few good ones then sent over.. got to school to at 10, but only a few attended the review.. rounded up the whole course with some flash techniques..
had woodwind ensemble, went through the pieces we were playing.. nothing much, stayed back for awhile to practice on my own.. then with out with Christopher, Clement, Jia Rong, Liying, Yu Shan and Yuxi.. went to J8 to eat, wanted to eat at Subway, but decided on the food court instead.. they had a Pepper Lunch Express outlet there.. but ate chicken rice instead..
Sunday went for AMK's concert at SCH.. they played lotsa pieces I've heard before, the Merry Widow, Grand March, Howl's Moving Castle.. so was abit unexciting during the concert.. but can't stand one joker who made alot of noise during the concert, just stand across the aisle from me.. think he got my signal after the first few pieces..
what happened after the concert was more exciting.. something to do with Wee Chong and Xue Li.. hahaa.. hadn't eaten dinner, but nodbody wanted to go eat with me.. so ate by myself at the 24-hr mac at Hougang Green..

did a couple of pics as I walked back..

Sunday was quite busy.. went to settle the exhibition stuff in the earlier part of the day, then went to Mrs Wang's house with the rest of the class in the late afternoon..
took 72 first to the MRT station, needed to top out my ez-link card.. then took the train to little india, and 166 to bencoolen st.. went to Triple D as KT wasn't open on Sundays.. the person said it'll take an hour, which was fast, so went to get the mounting boards first.. started raining as I boarded the bus.. got to Bras Basah to get the mounting boards, think this is the 4th time I'm coming here for boards..
did quite alot of walking with the boards, cos the bus doesn't stop exactly near the shop.. doesn't seem as weird carry such a big yellow thing around as it did the first time.. collected the 18 photos, which turned out quite nicely.. except the B&W film ones, had a slight green tint which I didn't like.. but it does work with the pic.. took 147 back, deposited the stuffs at my house..
turns out that Mrs Wang lives quite close to me, somewhere near Punggol Park.. they were watching Step Up by the time I got there.. played cards, helped her finish her CNY goodies.. hahaa.. she also had a digital piano in the living room, then went to play on it.. sight read a couple of scores that was on it.. Ms Lim and her fiance were also in her house, then they called me in for a chat.. asked me if I wanted to take pics for her wedding.. not that I don't want to, just feel this kinda events hiring a professional would be better..
then went to Hougang Mall to buy a present for Yuan Ting.. actually wanted to eat, but seeing I got quite alot of stuff to do, went back first..

twirling and twirling around..
took some pics of the funfair that was going on in the field next to HM.. did some light trails with the rides, but the max shutter speed wasn't long enough to get a nice complete revolution for some..
Monday met early in school to prepare for the exhibition and at the same time rehearse for the intro to the sch.. added in my part about photography, which I felt was important to include in.. wanted to change ppl's perception of what photography is all about..
stayed back together with Amelia to move the exhibition boards.. zhi kai, kh, shi hao and yong han came to join us later on to help set the boards up.. spent some time discussing how the layout should be.. went home quite late..
Tuesday ended relatively early as did Zhi Kai.. then got a msg saying the boards fell down and some of the clips broke.. hiaz.. went to get the bricks and rearrange the boards.. the intro was postponed to wed, so we had 1 more day..
Me and Zhi Kai..taken with his newly bought N80.. Wed met early in school to prepare for the intro.. took out some cams, then rehearsed how to stand what to say etc.. before you know it its 7.40.. here was what I said..
Photography, at its simplest term, is the recording of light unto a light-sensitive medium such as film or a digital sensor. However, it goes beyond just pressing the shutter button. It is a fusion of both arts and science. It is a creative medium, a form of expression. Freezing a moment into eternity and making eternity into a moment. With the onset of the digital age, photography has been made accessible to almost everyone. But as an old Leica advertisement goes, “Anyone who can see can take a photograph. But learning to see may take forever.” Here at the photographic society, we not only aim to impart our members with the technical skills of photography, but also instill a passion for it.
really forced myself to speak slowly, cos normally I speak quite fast.. actually I didn't have to come up to say anything.. but wanted to share my passion with the rest of the sch and at the same time, overcome my fear of public speaking..
